Swansea City vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Swansea City host Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium on 19/08/017 as the away side look to make it two wins from two in the Premier League. Swansea had to dig in deep to come away from their trip to Southampton with a 0-0 draw on the opening day, but United had little trouble in seeing off a disappointing West Ham, coming out 4-0 winners at Old Trafford. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester United looked in excellent form against West Ham last weekend, with this arguably the strongest they’ve looked since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. Swansea meanwhile struggled to threaten Southampton last time out, and I can see this being a comfortable away win.

Swansea City Preview

Paul Clement, in reflection, will have been relatively pleased that his side were able to leave St. Mary’s with a draw last weekend after travelling to the south coast without their two best attacking players. Neither Gylfi Sigurdsson nor Fernando Llorente featured for the Swans on Saturday afternoon, which severely limited their attacking threat going forward. However, despite being under the cosh for the majority of the contest, Swansea defended resolutely, something which must give Clement optimism - they had the second worst defence in the league last term, conceding 70 goals in their 38 matches. Llorente is back in training which gives a real boost to a Swansea team who finished last season in excellent form at the Liberty Stadium. Clement guided his team to three successive wins in their final three home matches as part of their late survival push, winning six of their last eight in total on home turf. Tottenham are the only team to pick up three points at Swansea since January, proving what a fortress they can make the Liberty Stadium. Tammy Abraham - who scored 23 goals on loan at Bristol City last season - looked an isolated figure last weekend in what was just his third Premier League appearance.

Swansea City Team News

Nathan Dyer (achilles) is ruled out until the end of September through injury. Fernando Llorente (arm) is likely to feature, but Gylfi Sigurdsson is still set to miss out with his future at Swansea uncertain.

Manchester United Preview

In Jose Mourinho’s mind, the performance his Manchester United side gave in their opening day victory over West Ham can’t have been too far from what the level he hoped and envisaged his side would reach. Romelu Lukaku looked at ease in a United shirt, scoring twice on his debut to give them a two-goal cushion. Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba added strikes late on, as a powerful, imposing United team ran out comfortable winners. Nemanja Matic was mightily impressive in the heart of the United midfield, with his presence alone having an undoubted influence on Paul Pogba, whom it seemed was playing with far more freedom. West Ham at home is the kind of fixture where Mourinho so often saw his side drop points last season, with that the key issue they need to address to become title contenders this time around. For Lukaku, his debut couldn’t have gone much better and he already seems to have struck a relationship with United’s attacking players, particularly Marcus Rashford. After ending last season with no wins in four away from home, Mourinho will be keen to see his side post another dominant display and put that winless run to bed.

Manchester United Team News

Luke Shaw (ankle), Marcos Rojo (cruciate ligament) and Ashley Young (hamstring) are all absent for the away side. Mourinho could name an unchanged lineup for this fixture following the impressive nature of their victory against West Ham last time out.
