Swansea City vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Swansea City face Huddersfield Town at the Liberty Stadium on 14/10/17 as both teams look to bounce back from defeats last time out. Swansea lost 1-0 away to West Ham a fortnight ago, while Huddersfield were convincingly beaten 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Swansea are in real need of a victory here, and with Huddersfield’s bounce seemingly fading, I’m expecting the home side to have enough to secure the three points here.

Swansea City Preview

A lack of invention and ruthlessness in front of goal cost Swansea at West Ham last time out, with the team once again struggling to find fluency in attack. An uninspiring contest saw the Swans muster just one effort on target all game, despite actually dominating possession during the match. With it seeming as if the game would come to its’ inevitable conclusion, Arthur Masuaku crossed for Diafra Sakho, who scored his first goal of the season and enabled the Hammers to leapfrog Swansea in the Premier League table. Paul Clement’s side are now without a win in their last four Premier League outings, scoring just once during that time. In total, they have scored just three goals in the league so far this season - only Crystal Palace have netted fewer in the first seven games of the campaign. That is despite the fact Swansea were excellent at home under Clement last season, ending the campaign with three wins on the bounce at the Liberty Stadium, winning six of their last eight overall. Losing Gylfi Sigurdsson has really exposed the lack of creativity in midfield, leaving the likes of Tammy Abraham and Wilfried Bony particularly short of quality service.

Swansea City Team News

Kyle Bartley (knee) and Leon Britton (knock) are both set to miss out for Swansea this weekend.

Huddersfield Town Preview

After such a positive start to the season, reality seems to be setting in at Huddersfield Town after they were given their first thumping in the Premier League by Tottenham Hotspur. In facing Spurs, the Terriers were also taking on arguably the most deadly striker in world football at this moment in time, with it taking all of nine minutes for Harry Kane to score the opener. Soon after Ben Davies netted Spurs’ second, before Kane’s inch-perfect strike made it 3-0 before half-time. Moussa Sissoko struck in stoppage time to add gloss to the scoreline for Tottenham, leaving David Wagner to go back to the drawing board over the international break and try to conjure up a formula that will end this current slump. Huddersfield’s winless run actually exceeds that of their opponents coming into this fixture, with the team currently without a win in their last five outings - that after winning their first two matches on the bounce. Scoring goals has also been an issue, with Wagner seeing his team find the back of the net just once during their current winless streak and have drawn blanks in each of their last two away outings. After emerging as a surprise package, it seems teams are beginning to quickly understand how to play this side.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Huddersfield’s lengthy injury list sees Michael Hefele (achilles), Danny Williams (broken toe), Jon Gorenc-Stankovic (cruciate ligament), Kasey Palmer (hamstring), Collin Quaner (calf) and Steve Mounie (heel) all ruled out here.
