Swansea City vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features an unbeaten home side against a roadside who won in midweek. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Swansea looked on course to being the first side to beat Leeds this season but were pegged back twice and had to settle for a point. Ollie McBurnie grabbed both goals in a match that a point was a fair result when looking at expected goals data. Bristol City won 3-0 in midweek picking up their first victory of the season and inflicting more misery on QPR. Andreas Weimann grabbed a brace and Matty Taylor one in a result that defied the expected goals data which had the London outfit as marginally the better side. The last time these sides met was way back in 2010/11 so it is hard to read anything into their head-to-head record. For what it is worth they have met six times in the last decade and it honours even with two wins each and two draws.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Swansea are favourites to win the game but probably should be a shorter price than they are and as such look a good home bet here. Bristol City were lucky to beat a pointless QPR side in midweek while the Swans pushed high-flying Leeds to the limit. Given the injury crisis at the back for the Robins then the home team to win looks a good thing as does them to score over 1.5 goals.

Swansea City Preview

The Swans despite some off-field issues are going well on the pitch with four without a defeat and eight points from a possible 12. They sit sixth in the Championship table while the expected goals data table suggests they should be down in 11th. At the Liberty Stadium, they have taken four points from two though the defeat of Preston is their only one in the last seven. The Welsh outfit have taken the lead in both games in front of their own fans. Ollie McBurnie grabbed a brace in midweek and he has now three goals from four appearances. Swansea have conceded just three times this season with two of them coming in midweek against Leeds.

Swansea City Team News

Kristoffer Nordfelt (groin) is unlikely to be rushed back while Declan John (back) and Wilfried Bony (cruciate) are all out of action for at least a month.

Bristol City Preview

A victory over QPR came at the right time for the Robins who had made a slow start with just two points from their first three. It is now five points from four which has them in 13th place while in the expected goals data table they sit 12th. Away from Ashton Gate, they are unbeaten in their two this season and their last three in total. Eight of the last 14 on the road for City have seen one or both teams fail to find the back of the net. Andreas Weimann is in great goalscoring form this campaign having netted four times in the league. Bristol City have seen three of their last five in the Championship go over 2.5 goals with two of them going over 3.5.

Bristol City Team News

The Robins have problems at the back with Nathan Baker, Bailey Wright, Taylor Moore and Jens Hegeler all carrying injuries.  Famara Diehiou remains suspended while Frank Fielding and Hakeeb Adelakun are long-term absentees.
