Swansea City vs Arsenal Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Swansea City host Arsenal at the Liberty Stadium on 30/01/18 in a key game for both sides in the Premier League. Swansea drew 1-1 away to Notts County last time out, while Arsenal were 2-1 winners against Chelsea a week ago. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

After picking up a huge result against Liverpool last time out in the league, Swansea will be keen to prove that wasn’t just a one off performance here. Arsenal, though, will also be full of confidence following their defeat of Chelsea and I’m expecting the Gunners to take three points here.

Swansea City Preview

An FA Cup replay may well have been the last thing Swansea would’ve hoped for from their clash with Notts County at the weekend, but that was exactly what they were dealt following a 1-1 draw at Meadow Lane. Luciano Narsingh fired the Swans ahead with a drilled finish on the stroke of half-time, but the League Two outfit responded in the second half when veteran striker Jonathan Stead powered the ball home. From the highs of beating Liverpool to the mediocrity of a draw against a fourth-tier side, Carlos Carvalhal has experienced plenty of emotions since joining Swansea, though it must be said that he has made them a more difficult side to play against. Losing just one of their last seven and unbeaten in their previous five in all competitions, it seems the Portuguese coach has made a positive impact early on in his time at the Liberty Stadium. Winning back-to-back games at home coming into this game, Swansea will be hoping to upset the Gunners at a ground where they have enjoyed success in recent years.

Swansea City Team News

Federico Fernandez (broken nose) and Renato Sanches (hamstring) are both doubts here.

Arsenal Preview

Wembley has become a familiar venue for Arsenal in recent seasons and the Gunners will renew their association with the home of English football after beating Chelsea 2-1 to book their place in the EFL Cup final. It seemed the away side were favourites to go through early on when Eden Hazard gave Chelsea the lead after 7 minutes, but Antonio Rudiger’s own goal five minutes later cancelled out their advantage. Then, on the hour mark, Granit Xhaka poked in Arsenal’s winner as Arsene Wenger looks to finally enjoy success in the League Cup final at the third time of asking. Attentions will now turn back to the Premier League with the task being to close the gap between themselves and the top four, currently finding themselves five points shy of Liverpool in 4th. Having seen what Swansea were capable of against Jurgen Klopp’s men just over a week ago, Arsenal will be wary of complacency in south Wales, where they have had little fuss in their previous two visits. Winning 4-0 and 3-0 on their last two visits to the Liberty Stadium, a similar result would certainly be welcome here, and would see them - for 24 hours at least - climb above Tottenham in the table.

Arsenal Team News

Santi Cazorla (achilles), Danny Welbeck (groin) and Olivier Giroud (hamstring) are all ruled out for the away side.
