Sunderland vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom third of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sunderland put to an end their losing run last time out as they managed a 2-2 draw at Preston. George Honeyman and Aiden McGeady got the goals for the Black Cats on that occasion. QPR lost their last game going down in a London derby with Fulham 2-1 at Loftus Road. Their only goal of the match came in the 90th minute from Conor Washington and they can have few complaints about the result. The last time these two met at the Stadium of Light was in the Premier League in February 2015 in a game that the Rs won 2-0. The last time the duo met was in the League Cup last season at Loftus Road with the North-Eastern outfit coming out on top 2-1.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Do you take the side with no home victory this season or the side with no road victory neither of them really seem appealing options. I think if pushed I would lean to the visitors but I think better value can be found elsewhere. I think a couple of players represent value in the anytime goal scorer market. Neither side has a prolific striker so this allows value to be found in the midfield. Firstly, Lynden Gooch who was given licence to get forward behind James Vaughan last time out and finds himself on penalties. Secondly, I like the look of Luke Freeman for QPR who has two in the last six and finds himself ranked fifth in the division for shots per game with an average of 3.2 per match.

Sunderland Preview

It has been a miserable return to life for the Black Cats who instead of pushing for a return to the Premier League find themselves involved in a battle to avoid dropping another league. They sat 23rd going into the international break with seven points from their opening 11 fixtures. At home, it has been a mess with just one point from five and four successive defeats at the Stadium of Light. Along with Bolton their tally of three league goals in front of their own fans is joint worst in the division. The defence has been an issue with 21 shipped which is the third worst in the Championship while the attack is in the bottom six for goals scored. The North-Eastern oufit are ranked fourth in the over/under table with an average of 3.0 goals per fixture.

Sunderland Team News

Josh Maja (knee), Billy Jones (unknown) and Lewis Grabban (hamstring) will hope to use the break to return to fitness.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

After a promising start QPR have slide off a little with no victory in their last five league fixtures and just three points taken. They sit in 16th place with 13 points from their 11 games though their next two are against the bottom two in the table. On the road, they are without a victory with three defeats and two draws from their five played. They have managed to find the back of their net in all but one of their games on their travels. They sit in the top ten for goals scored but in the bottom eight for goals conceded this season. They are averaging 2.64 goals per fixture with eight of their 11 featuring exactly two or three goals.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Jordan Cousins (hamstring), Grant Hall (knee) and James Perch (dislocated kneecap) continue to work on getting back into fitness while Nedum Onuoha (hamstring) is out for another month.
