Sunderland vs Nottingham Forest Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

This Tuesday evening (19:45) Championship game features two of the best-supported sides in the division.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sunderland come into the game on the back of a second successive defeat this time losing 2-1 at home to Sheffield United.  The result was probably a little harsh on the Black Cats who created as many chances as the Blades but only had a 94th minute Jack Rodwell goal to show for their efforts. Nottingham Forest also lost at the weekend as they suffered a 3-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday.  They were in the game at half-time 1-1 thanks to a Ben Osborn strike but two goals in the second-half did for them. These two sides have not met since 2008 which was in the League Cup and since 2004 in the Championship.  For what it is worth Sunderland have won each of the last four battles between the duo.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the match prices with Sunderland favourites because of home advantage but given their home form I would not rush to back them but then I could say the same on the visitors. Each of the last three Forest away matches have seen both teams score and over 2.5 goals while this happened in two of the last three in all competitions for Sunderland. It also looks worth an individual play on the over 2.5 goals bet.

Sunderland Preview

It is three straight league defeats for the Black Cats who had taken five points from their opening three fixtures.  They sit in 20th place just above the relegation slots though two of their next three are at the Stadium of Light. At home, they have struggled picking up just one point from their three this season and you must go back to December 2016 for the last they won a league game in front of their own fans. Lewis Grabban has three goals for the season but he is the only Sunderland player to have scored more than once in the league.  The average time of the first goal scored this season comes in the 40th minute while the average time of the first goal conceded is the 30th.

Sunderland Team News

Duncan Watmore (cruciate) and Aiden McGeady (hamstring) are listed day-to-day while Josh Maja (knee) and Patrick McNair (cruciate) are long-term absentees.

Nottingham Forest Preview

It has been a mixed start to the season for the Tricky Trees who have three wins and three defeats from their last six with two of these defeats coming in the last three. They sit in 11th place with hopes of climbing as three of their next five are at home. On the road, it has been two defeats and one victory from their three league fixtures while if you stretch it back into last season it is just one league road win in the last 16.  Each of their three away ties this season have gone over 2.5 goals and seen both teams net. Daryl Murphy is their leading scorer this season with three league goals while Barrie McKay and Andreas Bouchalakis have two each.  66% of their goals this season have come in the first-half yet none have been scored in the opening 15.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Jamie Ward (calf) and David Vaughan (groin) are doubts.
