Sunderland vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday late afternoon (17:30) Championship game from the Stadium of Light will be played out in front of the Sky cameras. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sunderland continue their solid start to the season with a 1-1 draw in midweek against Sheffield Wednesday. They took the lead in just the fourth minute through George Honeyman but were pegged back in the second-half and had to settle for a draw. Leeds were held to a goalless draw in their home game with Fulham last time out. They created the only two clear chances of a tightly fought game but had to settle for a home point. The last time these two met was in the FA Cup in January 2015 and it was the Black Cats who won that day 1-0. They have won each of the last three head-to-head battles and four of the last five.

Betting Tips and Predictions

These two teams are drawing plenty of games and I think this might be another one that ends all-square. This looks worth a small play as done the nature of the draw which I think will be a score draw and this can be found in the winning margin section.

Sunderland Preview

After a summer of doom and gloom it has been a strong start to the season which must be credit to the sterling work of manager Simon Grayson. He has made the team tough to beat and they have five points from an opening trio of tricky against Derby, Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich. At home, it is 12 competitive games without victory for the Black Cats with their last success coming in front of their own fans on December 17th. That same fixture was also the last time that they held the lead at their own ground. Sunderland have kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven against Leeds in all competitions. Lewis Grabban has three goals for the season and is averaging 3.7 shots per game.

Sunderland Team News

Bryan Oviedo (calf) and Josh Maja (knee) are doubts while Patrick McNair and Duncan Watmore (both cruciate) are out for a few weeks.

Leeds United Preview

It has been a good start to the season for Leeds who are unbeaten in three games with a victory over Bolton and draws with Fulham and Preston. This is the first of two league road trips with Forest next up after this. On the road, their opening day defeat of Bolton put to an end a run of six matches without a victory. Eight of their last 11 on their travels have seen a total of exactly two or three goals scored. None of the three that the Yorkshire side have scored in the league this season came in the opening half. Chris Wood has had a slow start to the season with just one goal and has been linked with a Burnley this week.
