Strasbourg vs Nantes Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Nantes will be looking to extend their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 to five games when they travel to the Stade de la Meinau to take on the newcomers Strasbourg on Sunday afternoon. Strasbourg suffered a 3-0 defeat on the road at the reigning champions Monaco last weekend, in a game in which they delivered just one shot on target. On the contrary, Nantes won 1-0 at home over Caen last time out in Ligue 1, with Andrei Girotto scoring the winner in the 73rd minute. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips - Match Odds

Although Nantes hold a strong head-to-head record in this tie, Strasbourg have been a solid side in front of their own fans over the past six months, losing just once in their last 13 home games across all competitions. Furthermore, Strasbourg have won three of their last five home meetings with Nantes across all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in each of these. I think that Strasbourg are more than capable of securing a positive result here despite the fact they face an in-form Nantes. It might be a long shot, but I think that a draw is a convenient result for both sides.

Strasbourg v Nantes - Correct score betting tips and odds

Predicting the correct score for this clash is a bit tricky as the previous five meetings between these two sides have seen different results. These two sides have a single thing in common, which is the fact that both have looked short going forward. Strasbourg have scored at least one goal in twelve of their last 13 home games across all competitions, while Nantes come into this tie on the back of two consecutive 0-1 away wins in Ligue 1. This having been said, our correct score prediction is:

Correct score prediction: 1-1 at odds 9/2 with Bet365

Strasbourg v Nantes - Total Goals predictions and odds

The total goals predictions seem to be an easy choice in this one, although the bookmakers aren’t offering much value in Under 2.5 goals at odds 8/15. Both teams have looked poor going forward throughout the season, having bagged just seven goals between them after six rounds. Furthermore, two of the last three meetings between these two sides has seen just one goal scored. Given the lack of goals from both sides, our total goals tip is under 2.5 goals at odds 8/15 with Bet365, although the under 1.5 goals market looks better value at odds 13/8 with Bet365.

Over/Under total goals prediction: Under 2.5 goals at odds 8/15 with Bet365

Strasbourg Preview

The newly-promoted Strasbourg began their Ligue 1 adventure in a positive manner, collecting four points from their opening three league fixtures. However, Strasbourg have failed to win a single game since then and enter the fray on the back of a four-game winless streak in Ligue 1. Actually, Strasbourg have suffered back-to-back defeats in their most recent three league games, and the most worrying fact is they have failed to score a single goal in the process. They are second from the bottom in the Ligue 1 table tied on four points with the 18th-placed Dijon, one point behind safety. Strasbourg have looked poor at both ends of the field throughout this early part of the season, but their biggest problem has been in the final third. Strasbourg have only scored four goals in six rounds, which is the second joint worst attacking record in the division. Dimitri Lienard has been Strasbourg’s most prolific player in front of goal in this early part of the campaign, helping the team with one goal and one assist in his five league appearances. The good news is that Strasbourg have been a strong side on home soil over the past six months, having lost just once in their last 13 home games across all competitions.

Strasbourg Team News

Abdallah Ndour and Dimitri Foulquier are both doubts ahead of this game.

Nantes Preview

On the other hand, Nantes started the new Ligue 1 season with back-to-back defeats at the hands of Lille and Marseille, without scoring a single goal in the process. However, manager Claudio Ranieri managed to steady the ship as Nantes now enter the fray on the back of a four-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1, including a narrow 1-0 home win over Caen last weekend. Nantes have looked incredibly strong at the back of late, as they have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four league fixtures. Nantes’ main problem in this early part of the campaign has been their goalscoring form as they hold the joint worst attacking record in the division with just three goals scored in six games. All of their goals have been scored by different players, including last season’s top scorer Emiliano Sala. Despite this poor record, Nantes still sit in a respectable 7th position in the standings tied on 10 points with Marseille and just one point behind the top five. Away from home, Nantes were on a six-game winless streak prior to their back-to-back 0-1 wins at Troyes and Montpellier in their most recent two league trips. Furthermore, Nantes have picked up victories in two of their last three visits to the Stade de la Meinau, keeping a clean sheet in each of these.

Nantes Team News

Anthony Walongwa, Samuel Moutoussamy, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, Yacine Bammou, Valentin Rongier and Diego Carlos Santos Silva are all doubts, while Joris Kayembe Ditu is out through a cruciate ligament injury.
