Stoke City vs West Ham United Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Stoke City welcome West Ham United to the Bet365 Stadium on 16/12/17 as the Potters look to return to winning ways in the Premier League. Stoke lost 1-0 away to high-flying Burnley last time out, with West Ham drawing 0-0 against Arsenal. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

West Ham seem to have turned a corner under David Moyes, with the team now looking as if they have found a solution to leaking goals on a consistent basis. Stoke meanwhile are stuck in a rut and I can see West Ham getting another result here.

Stoke City Preview

Given the budgets of each respective club and the pedigree of player at their disposal - the Potters having four Champions League winners in their mix -  you would expect Stoke to be the side to be competing in the top half of the table, not Burnley. However, their meeting went the way of the form each side has been in so far this season, with Sean Dyche’s men securing a 1-0 win at Turf Moor. It was a frustrating night for Stoke, with manager Mark Hughes believing his side were harshly beaten by a below-par Burnley side, whose winner made the loss all the more agonising with Ashley Barnes scoring in the 89th minute of the contest. With the loss, Stoke now have their lowest ever points total at this stage of a Premier League season, currently sitting on 16 points after 17 games, increasing the pressure on Hughes to turnaround their current run of form. Stoke have won just one of their last seven games in the top flight, conceding 16 goals during that time and Hughes needs to find a resolution to their problems before they sink any further in the table. That said, West Ham are a side who they have fared well against in recent years, going unbeaten against the Hammers in their last eight meetings.

Stoke City Team News

Bruno Martins Indi (groin) is ruled out, while Jese also misses out for personal reasons.

West Ham United Preview

Goals may not have arrived, but there was a positive feeling at the London Stadium on Wednesday night after West Ham came away from a tough double-header with four points from a possible six, this time holding Arsenal to a 0-0 draw. Despite relinquishing possession to the Gunners for the majority of the contest, the Hammers never appeared to be particularly threatened barring Alex Iwobi’s shot that hit the post. David Moyes’ side even had a chance late on to win in it as Javier Hernandez also struck the woodwork following a defensive mixup in the Arsenal backline. After also beating Chelsea 1-0 at the weekend, West Ham are now only in the bottom three on goal difference and keeping clean sheets against two of the top sides in the league will give them a huge confidence boost. Having essentially played with a flat back five over recent weeks, the team have put bodies behind the ball to real effect, with Michail Antonio and Marko Arnautovic left to attack up front. For the latter in particular this is a huge game, with the Austrian saying in the summer that he chose to leave the Potters due to West Ham being a “bigger club”. The Hammers ran Manchester City close in their last away game as they now look to pick up their first away win of the campaign.

West Ham United Team News

Sam Byram (thigh) and Jose Fonte (ankle) are both ruled out, while Cheikhou Kouyate (hamstring) is also a doubt.
