Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

There seems to be real disarray at Watford at this moment in time, while there appears to have been a positive reaction to Paul Lambert since his arrival at Stoke, who I’m expecting to pick up the three points on offer here.

Stoke City Preview

Despite the initial surprise at Paul Lambert’s arrival at Stoke City, the Scot got off to the perfect start with a 2-0 victory at home to Huddersfield Town last weekend. Despite the Potters’ own form being far from desirable, Huddersfield have been just as poor of late, making them the perfect first opponents for a new manager. Joe Allen struck shortly after half-time to put Stoke in front, while Mame Biram Diouf added their second 20 minutes from time as a jubilant Lambert kicked off his reign with a vital three points. That result temporarily lifted them out of the bottom three, though they come into this game in 18th following Swansea’s stunning 3-1 win over Arsenal on Tuesday night. Previously having the look of a sinking ship, it’s incredible what just one victory can do for a side’s confidence, with Stoke now favourites to win here. Winning three of their last five games at home, it will ultimately come down to how well they perform in front of their home supporters that determines the final outcome of their season. Facing Watford and Brighton in their next two at home, they are approaching key run of games for the context of their season, with only goal difference separating themselves from 15th-placed Newcastle.

Stoke City Team News

Glen Johnson (knee) and Konstantinos Stafylidis (ankle) are doubtful for Stoke.

Watford Preview

Javi Gracia’s first outing as Watford manager wasn’t quite as ideal as his opponent’s after the Hornets’ 1-0 defeat away to Southampton in the FA Cup sparked serious discontent between the players and supporters at full-time. Jack Stephens scored the only goal of the game, doing so after just four minutes as the Hornets were unable to find their way back into the contest after managing only two shots on target. After full-time, Watford fans didn’t hold back in their criticism of their players, letting them know in no uncertain terms what they made of their performance; something Jose Holebas and Abdoulaye Doucoure took particular exception to. Winning only one of their previous 11 outings in the Premier League, it shows just how tight things are at the bottom of the table that the Hornets somehow remain 11th. Defeat here would see 18th-placed Stoke move level on points with Watford in the table, making this a game they simply can’t afford to lose, now finding themselves well and truly in the relegation battle. With seven defeats in their last eight away from home, losing five on the bounce in doing so, Gracia faces a huge task to get his side performing on the road.

Watford Team News

Miguel Britos (ankle), Craig Cathcart (knee), Kiko (hamstring) and Troy Deeney (ill) are all doubtful. Nathaniel Chalobah (knee) and Will Hughes (hamstring) remain absent.
