Stoke City vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom-half of the table looking to build on a win last weekend. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Stoke got their first win under Nathan Jones with a 2-1 home success over leaders Leeds last time out. Sam Clucas and Joe Allen got their goals to give them three points their performance deserved.

Preston put a five-game winless run behind them with a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Loftus Road over QPR. Jayden Stockley, Jordan Storey, Alan Browne and Brad Potts all weighed in with a goal each through the scoreline really flattered North-End.

The reverse fixture came in mid-August at Deepdale and it ended 2-2 with Paul Gallagher and Graham Burke bagging for the Lilywhites and Erik Pieters and Peter Crouch scoring for the Potters.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Stoke are strong favourites to win the game given their defeat of Leeds last season but I actually think this one is destined to be a draw. Both sides looked good last week and will not want to undo their fine work and I can see not getting back on a losing run being the key motive here.  As such the draw appeals and given the firepower both now possess both teams to score and the draw also makes sense.

Stoke City Preview

The Potters win last time out put to an end a four-game winless run and was just their second in the last six. They sit in 15th place eight off the play-offs and 15 away from the relegation zone.

At the Bet365 Stadium, the Staffordshire outfit are playing well winning four of their last five and losing just one of their last seven. Nine of the last 12 goals netted at this ground in the league have come in the second-half.

Stoke have scored 33 goals in the Championship this season and just 12 of them have come before the break. They have conceded 14 at their own place this season with six coming before half-time.

Stoke City Team News

Ibrahim Afellay (knee) is a long-term absentee otherwise the Potters have a clean bill of health.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites ended a five-game winless run last time out and will hope that this marks a turning point in their season. They are now ten points above the relegation zone and will be looking to climb the table.

Away from Deepdale, the Lancashire outfit have been a mixed bag of late with three victories and three draws from six. They have managed just one goal before the interval in their last five on the road.

Preston would be as high as eighth in the table if it was settled on scorelines after just 45 minutes. They have though been ahead just twice on the road this season going into the interval.

Preston North End Team News

Tom Clarke (calf), Callum Robinson and Lewis Moult, (both hamstring) are doubts through Josh Earl can return after his one-game suspension. Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop (both knee) are long-term absentees and could miss the remainder of the season.
