Stoke City vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Stoke City were able to secure a valuable point during the weekend after a goalless draw with Southampton at the St Mary’s stadium. Southampton had more of the ball and also created slightly more chances, but Paul Lambert will be delighted with the point and the clean sheet. Manchester City managed a crucial 1-0 win over Chelsea to remain 16 points ahead of Manchester United. Bernardo Silva came up with the breakthrough just a few seconds into the second-half, and it was a hammer blow for Chelsea’s defensive approach to the game. City went on to progress into the quarter-finals of the Champions League despite a 2-1 home loss against Basel. City beat the Swiss team 5-2 on aggregate.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Manchester City have had an indifferent away form – especially in the Premier League. The table leaders have only picked up two away wins in the last five league matches. Crucially, the club has scored under 2.5 goals in three of these games. Stoke City may be in the bottom three, but the club has improved defensively under Lambert. None of the last five games with the Bet365 stadium has produced over 2.5 goals. I see tremendous value in choosing Manchester City to score under 2.5 goals. City have netted through different scorers like Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus in recent matches. However, Aguero happens to enjoy playing against Stoke City after managing eight goals in as many games against this club. Aguero has scored three goals in the last two matches against Stoke. I would back Sergio Aguero to score anytime.

Manchester City to score under 2.5 goals – 5/6

Sergio Aguero to score anytime – 4/6

Manchester City scored over 2.5 goals in 5 out of their last 10 games played

Stoke City Preview

Stoke City remain in the bottom three of the league table, as the club has been unable to pick up sufficient wins. However, Paul Lambert will be reasonably pleased with the progress made by his team. The crucial element for Stoke has been staying in touch with the safety positions. The Potters only need a point in order to get to safety. In the last five league matches, Bournemouth have been the only team to beat Stoke City and they required late goals in order to do so. Yet, this progress will come for nothing if Stoke fail to get anything from a very tough run of games coming up.

Stoke City Team News

Lee Grant (wrist), Stephen Ireland (calf), and Mame Biram Diouf (shoulder) are the players unavailable for Stoke City.

Manchester City Preview

Manchester City suffered a second defeat in five matches, but Guardiola is unlikely to be concerned with the defeat. The Spaniard has seen his team rise up to the occasion more often than not. After being knocked out of the FA Cup by Wigan, City went on to achieve two big wins over Arsenal and a crucial success over Chelsea. City have a strong set of winnable matches coming up before the host United in the Manchester derby. The club also have the Champions League quarter-finals coming up.

Manchester City Team News

Pep Guardiola has a fully fit squad for this game, as the likes of Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling have all returned to first-team training.
