Stoke City Preview

Life without Mark Hughes began on Monday night for Stoke City but it remained much the same for the Potters, who lost 3-0 away to Manchester United. Antonio Valencia cut in from the right and lashed the ball into the top corner, before Anthony Martial doubled their lead with a controlled finish from the edge of the box. Romelu Lukaku compounded Stoke’s misery in the second half with United’s third, as the Potters remain 18th in the table, missing the chance to escape the relegation zone in doing so. Paul Lambert is now the man tasked with trying to keep Stoke in the Premier League, with that the only objective of the Scot, having 15 games left to do so. Lambert has had two spells with Premier League sides in Aston Villa and Norwich, keeping the latter up but saw his spell with the former come to an end with the side come to an end with the team in 18th. Spells at Blackburn and Wolves have since followed, with Lambert achieving 15th-placed finishes with both sides in the Championship, which has helped the underwhelming feeling associated with the appointment. Coming into this off the back of four straight defeats, they are in desperate need of an instant impact from the Scot.

Stoke City Team News

Defenders Glen Johnson (knee), Ryan Shawcross (calf) and Erik Pieters (hamstring) will all hope to shake off knocks to be involved here.

Huddersfield Town Preview

Huddersfield Town’s difficult run of form continued last time out, after the Terriers fell to a 4-1 defeat at home to in-form West Ham United last weekend. Sloppy play from David Wagner’s side allowed Mark Noble to steal the ball and poke the Hammers in front, but Joe Lolley curled in the equaliser five minutes before half-time. Then, a blistering 15 minute spell saw David Moyes’s men simply blow the home side away, with Marko Arnautovic restoring their lead just seconds into the second half, before the Austrian teed up both of Manuel Lanzini’s strikes to secure an emphatic away win. As for Huddersfield, they are now without a win in five Premier League games, conceding seven goals in their last two back-to-back losses against West Ham and Leicester. Also winning just one of ten away from home, Wagner has been unable to find a formula to produce consistent performances from his side on the road, though both of their away victories this term have come by a three-goal margin. These two sides played out an entertaining 1-1 draw the last time they met in the league, but Wagner would certainly swap performances for points at this stage of the campaign, where we will begin to see who will be in the thick of a relegation battle.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Elias Kachunga (knee) is ruled out, while Martin Crainie (ankle) and Collin Quaner (hamstring) are both doubts.
