Stoke City vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Derby are clinging onto a playoff spot right now, and they visit Stoke on Wednesday night, a team who are currently drawing a lot of games.

Stoke have drawn four out of their last five games and while that has given them a great five game unbeaten run, the draws have prevented them from climbing the table into a position where they should be. They would be up in the single figure positions and challenging for the playoffs if just a couple of those games turned into wins, something they will be looking to do over the coming weeks.

Derby have started very well under rookie boss Frank Lampard, and the playoffs look within their capabilities. They are currently in them, though they may have dropped out by the time they play on Wednesday, with other teams playing on Tuesday night. Things are tight at the top, and looking forward, Derby are just three points off an automatic promotion spot right now, something they would love to get their hands on.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Stoke are clearly a team with talent and they were one of the favourites for promotion this season after suffering relegation from the Premier League in May. However, things haven’t gone to plan for them so far, and draws are currently holding them back from making a real splash. Derby won at the weekend, beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 but they may have to settle for a draw from this much tougher away trip.

Five of the last six games that Stoke have played have ended with two goals or less, they keep things tight and are struggling to put the ball in the back of the net right now. They know Derby will try to come at them, but Stoke are capable of keeping this one tight too, which looks set to result in another low scoring affair.

Stoke City Preview

If Stoke are to get themselves up into a challenging position for the playoffs then draws certainly won’t do it for them, they have to find a way to get regular wins on the board. Just five wins from their first 18 games is simply not good enough for a team that were expected to challenge for promotion by many.

The feeling with this team is that we are all sat waiting for them to come to life and dominate proceedings, but so far they are not showing anything like what is required for that.

Derby County Preview

The top of the table is tough, but Derby so far have managed to remain in touch and play some good football. They are in the playoffs going into these midweek games, but playing last means they may not be in by the time they take to the field. They are just three points off an automatic promotion spot too, which shows just how tight things are right now.

Like many other clubs, Derby will fancy their promotion chances, and while they have won four of their last six, that is the kind of form that needs to continue throughout the entire season if they are to have any chance of success.
