Stoke City vs Blackburn Rovers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two of the promotion hopefuls in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Stoke picked up only their second victory of the season in midweek as they defeated Swansea 1-0 thanks to a Joe Allen goal. The Potters were deserved victors in a game that they created most chances in. Blackburn can consider themselves a little fortunate to have picked up a goalless draw away at Derby in midweek. It does though stretch their run without a victory to three league matches. These two sides were two divisions apart last season and you have to go back to a 2015 FA Cup meeting for their head-to-heads. For what it is worth the Staffordshire outfit have won four of their last five meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given their two home victories recently I think Stoke are the selection here as they are starting to turn things around while Blackburn are starting to find the going tough after a strong start.

Bruno Martins Indi had a good chance from a set-piece in midweek and at these odds makes an interesting first goalscorer bet with the each-way option to be taken.

Stoke City Preview

The Potters have made a slow start to the season with two victories, three draws and three defeats from their first eight. They sit 17th in the table while the expected goals data believes they should be sixth. At the Bet365 Stadium, they have won the last two but had one draw and one defeat from their opening pair. Both their recent home victories have seen them prevent the away team netting. Stoke have seen two of their last three and four of their last six in the league go over 2.5 goals. Five of the eight the Staffordshire outfit have played this season have seen both teams net.

Stoke City Team News

Ibrahim Afellay (knee) is a doubt while Sam Clucas (knee) and James McClean (broken arm) are expected to miss a few weeks.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers have made a solid start to life in the Championship with two victories, five draws and just one defeat in their opening eight. They sit 14th in the table while the expected goals data has them as high as second. Away from Ewood Park, it has been a mixed bag with one victory, two draws and one defeat from four. All four goals the Lancashire outfit have netted on the road have come in the opening half. Blackburn have seen just one of their last four and two of their last season league fixtures go over 2.5 goals. Two of three and three of their last five have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Charlie Mulgrew (illness) and Craig Conway (unknown) are doubts while Ben Gladwin (knee) and Jacob Davenport (hip) are a few weeks from a return. Dominic Samuel (knee) has been ruled out for the season.
