St.Johnstone vs Rangers Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

St Johnstone claimed a first win in five games after a 2-0 win over Ross County. Murray Davidson came up with a brace in the first half to put St Johnstone in a strong position, while Craig Curran was sent off for Ross County in the 85th minute. Rangers picked up a 2-0 win over Hearts to make it four consecutive wins in all competitions. Jamie Murphy provided the hosts with a deserved lead going into the half-time break, while Russell Martin added a late second to confirm the three points for Graeme Murty’s men.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

St Johnstone will look to get inspiration from the recent meeting with Rangers at Ibrox, as it provided the club’s first league victory over this opponent in eight years. Even the Saints appear to have rediscovered their form, but they are at a great disadvantage for the upcoming match. Rangers have had an excellent record in games against this opponent. Specifically in the last six meetings at the McDiarmid Park, Rangers have picked up five wins. As Murty’s team have been playing some excellent football in recent weeks, I would back a win for Rangers. Rangers have been excellent going forward in recent weeks and have scored over 1.5 goals in each of the last five on the road. Since 2011, Rangers have been unable to score more than 1.5 goals at the McDiarmid Park only once. I would back Rangers to come up with over 1.5 goals.

St.Johnstone Preview

The last two matches have shown St Johnstone finding their feet once again, as the club has now managed back-to-back games without defeat. If Tommy Wright’s team avoid a defeat against Rangers in the midweek action, it would equal the longest unbeaten run for St Johnstone in the league since September. Such has been their disastrous form over the last couple of months and it has led to the club dropping well behind the top six places. Steve MacLean and Murray Davidson are the current players to top the scoring charts, while former loan star Michael O’Halloran also has five goals.

St.Johnstone Team News

Callum Hendry (knee), Brian Easton (knee), Ricky Foster (tendon), and Stefan Scougall (knee) are the names unavailable for manager Tommy Wright.

Rangers Preview

Rangers have been hitting top form in recent weeks and the return of just two goals in the game against Hearts should not be taken as a measure of the club’s recent attacking form. Graeme Murty has seen his team create plenty of chances in the last couple of games, as they have scored 14 goals in six games. At the same time, the result against Hearts was very crucial as it provided only the second clean sheet in the last five games at the Ibrox. Earlier in the campaign, Alfredo Morelos was the only source of goals but the team has also been able to score through the likes of Josh Windass. Still, Morelos tops the scoring charts with 12 goals in the SPL.

Rangers Team News

Graeme Murty will be without Jordan Rossiter (calf), Graham Dorrans (ankle), Ryan Jack (knee), Bruno Alves (knee), Lee Wallace (training deficit), and Ross McCrorie (knee) due to injuries.
