St.Johnstone vs Hibernian Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

St Johnstone come on the high of a 4-0 win over Dundee last weekend. A shot from Murray Davidson was deflected into the net by Jordan Piggott for the game’s opening goal. Christopher Kane doubled their advantage after 37 minutes. Second-half goals from Blair Alston and Kane ensured a big win for St Johnstone. Hibernian picked up a fifth consecutive Edinburgh derby win as they beat Hearts 2-0. Jamie MacLaren was the star of the show and he was rewarded with a late goal after Scott Allan had put Hibernian in front after 59 minutes.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

In the first half of the season, Hibernian were extremely good on the road but struggled to get results at the Easter Road stadium. Now, the roles have reversed with Hibernian only managing two wins in the last six away games. Even though St Johnstone are at home, Tommy Wright’s team have been inconsistent over the last few matches. It is difficult to expect a home win under these circumstances. I would go with a draw.

Jamie MacLaren showed glimpses of his outstanding work in counter-attacking situations and the former Brisbane Roar forward is likely to start the match against St Johnstone. The goals from Hibernian may not be huge, but they should be just about enough to take the total goal count to beyond 2.5 goals.

St.Johnstone Preview

St Johnstone were able to register the biggest league win of the season at a rather unexpected time, as the club were going through a disappointing end to the campaign. Earlier in the campaign, such a result would not have been surprising since St Johnstone were looking as Champions League qualification material. The lack of goalscoring threat has reduced the club into a bottom six outfit. The recent arrival in form has been coming about due to the goals from Murray Davidson, who has been in fine form over the last few weeks. The central midfielder leads the scoring charts at the club along with Steve MacLean.

St.Johnstone Team News

St Johnstone will be without David McMillan (knee), Ricky Foster (tendon), Brian Easton (knee), Callum Hendry (knee), and Stefan Scougall (knee) due to injuries.

Hibernian Preview

The strong surge of form since the start of February has led to Hibernian posing a real threat for Aberdeen’s third place in the SPL 2017-18 table. In fact, Hibernian’s good form extends even back to December, as the 1-0 loss against Celtic is the only defeat for the club in the last nine league outings. As a result, Lennon’s team are only two points behind Aberdeen coming into this match. The addition of Jamie MacLaren was expected to make a major impact in the second half of the campaign and the forward is starting to hit his best form.

Hibernian Team News

David Gray (Achilles tendon), Ross Laidlaw (shoulder), Brandon Barker (knee), and Vykintas Slivka (knee) are the names missing from action for Neil Lennon.
