St.Johnstone vs Celtic Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

St Johnstone’s poor continued after a 1-0 defeat against Partick Thistle. Miles Storey came up with the only goal of the game with a brilliant run in the 14th minute, but St Johnstone did have several opportunities to win the game. Celtic’s disappointing form in the SPL 2017-18 season continues after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock. Despite taking the lead through Leigh Griffiths, Kilmarnock were allowed to get back through Jordan Jones in the 60th minute. In the midweek action, Celtic are effectively out of the last 16 of the Champions League after falling to a 2-1 home defeat against Bayern Munich.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

St Johnstone have been losing at half-time and full-time in four out of the 12 games this season. It is a remarkable statistic which is made even worse by Celtic’s strong run of wins at half-time and full-time in four of the last six away matches. There is not much value to be had in backing Celtic for a win, as they have been able to get four wins in the last five games against St Johnstone. Instead, I would bet on a win for Celtic at half-time and full-time. The disappointment in front of goal is one of the key factors behind the St Johnstone’s struggles. The club has failed to score in the last five games without exception. Even though Celtic have been struggling for clean sheets this season, I would bet on this game to produce a clean sheet for Celtic.

Celtic half-time/full-time win – 8/11

Celtic clean sheet – 8/11

St.Johnstone Preview

St Johnstone are winless in the last five matches and concerns about manager Tommy Wright continues to grow. The last victory for St Johnstone was against Hamilton at the McDiarmid Park towards the end of September. After having been flying high at the start of the season, St Johnstone are now in danger of dropping out of the top six due to pressure from Hearts for the sixth place. The overall numbers for St Johnstone are decent with 13 goals scored and 16 conceded, but the recent form makes for a different reading with only two goals scored in the last six games. The team has also conceded nine goals.

St.Johnstone Team News

St Johnstone do not have injuries or suspensions coming into the game.

Celtic Preview

Celtic were able to overpower anything that came their way last season. This time around, it has been a much more difficult campaign for Brendan Rodgers and his men. Despite retaining most of the squad and being able to strengthen relatively well in the summer, Celtic will not be happy with a solitary point advantage over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League. The club’s results in the Champions League have been an even bigger disappointment, as they have only picked up points against fellow strugglers Anderlecht. Celtic were about to be judged on the European performances, but even the domestic results have been inconsistent with just three wins in the last five.

Celtic Team News

Celtic will be without Patrick Roberts (hamstring), Tony Rolston (knee), and Jozo Simunovic (hamstring) due to injury.
