Sporting Kansas City vs Chicago Fire Match Prediction

By Sam Turbitt

Sporting Kansas City extended their unbeaten run further after a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake. Luis Silva provided the opening goal in the game just before half-time, but Sporting Kansas City were able to recover from this setback in the 59th minute. Benny Feilhaber converted from the spot to level the scores. Chicago Fire suffered a first MLS defeat for almost three months, as they lost 2-1 against New York City. Chicago Fire had the luxury of playing against 10 men for much of the game after Yangel Herrera was sent off in the 12th minute. However, David Villa and Frederic Brilliant helped City take a 2-0 lead within three second-half minutes. David Accam’s brilliant long-range effort was unable to spark a comeback from Chicago Fire. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Peter Vermes is desperate to see his team overturn a run of multiple 1-1 draws, and the club’s good home record against Chicago Fire puts them in a strong position. Veljko Paunovic’s team might have just lost the unbeaten run, but they have the capability to secure an away draw after losing just once in the last 12 games. I would back a draw. Chicago Fire have failed to score only twice in the league this season. Sporting Kansas City might have a stringent defence, but they have kept one clean sheet in the last six. I see excellent value in backing both teams to score.

Sporting Kansas City Preview

Sporting Kansas City have now gone seven league matches without a defeat, but manager Peter Vermes may not be entirely happy with his team only managing two wins in this run. At the start of the season, the defence was a major strong attribute of Kansas City, but the team has now kept just one clean sheet in the last six. At the other end of the pitch, they have also been unable to score goals at a substantial pace. Kansas City are amongst the lowest scorers in the division with only 25 scored in 21 league matches this season. Gerso Fernandes is the top scorer for the club but with only six league goals

Sporting Kansas City Team News

Ike Opara (concussion) is the only player on the sidelines for Sporting Kansas City.

Chicago Fire Preview

The extended unbeaten run for Chicago Fire came to an end with the loss against New York City. The 11 game unbeaten run was likely to end in an away match, as Chicago Fire have been showing signs of wobble on the road. The club has managed just one win in the last four away games, while they have won eight on the bounce at the Toyota Stadium. The manner of the loss against New York City will especially hurt the team, as they were playing against 10 men for more than 70 minutes in the game. Nemanja Nikolic remains the top scorer in the Chicago Fire outfit and the 2017 MLS goalscoring charts with 16 league goals.

Chicago Fire Team News

Jorge Bava (elbow) and John Goossens (ankle) are the players unavailable for Chicago Fire.
