Spartak Moscow vs Sevilla Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Sevilla will be aiming to increase their lead at the top of the Champions League group E table when they travel to the Otkrytiye Arena to take on Spartak Moscow. Spartak Moscow managed a creditable 1-1 home draw against Liverpool last time out in the Champions League thanks to a first-half goal from Fernando. On the contrary, Sevilla won 3-0 at home over Maribor prior to the International break thanks to a hat-trick from Wissam Ben Yedder. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Sevilla are a team with plenty of European experience, but they are facing a Spartak Moscow team who have enjoyed a strong run of form recently. Spartak scored at least once in nine of their last ten home games across all competitions and they also managed to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 home draw in their group opener. I’m backing both sides to get on the scoresheet here and I also expect Spartak Moscow to secure a positive result.

Spartak Moscow Preview

Spartak Moscow have enjoyed a decent run of form over the past two months, winning four and drawing five of their last nine games across all competitions. They started their Champions League group stage campaign with a 1-1 away draw at Maribor, but they did well to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 home draw on matchday two. This leaves the Russians only in third in the group E table tied on 2 points with Liverpool, just two points adrift of the group leaders and their Tuesday’s opponents Sevilla. Their home form this season has seen them lose just once in eight games across all competitions, keeping four clean sheets in the process. Their Champions League home record hasn’t been great over the past seven years, losing four of their last eight home games in the competition. In addition, Spartak are winless in their last five home meetings with Spanish opponents since a 1-0 defeat against Real Madrid in the 2000/01 first group stage. Spartak qualified automatically for the group stage by winning the Russian Premier League title last term, but their Champions League recent record has been poor as they haven’t graced the last 16 since 2000/01.

Spartak Moscow Team News

Roman Zobnin, Ze Luis, Jano Ananidze and Lorenzo Melgarejo are all doubts, but Artem Timofeev, George Tigiyev and Artem Rebrov are still missing through injury.

Sevilla Preview

Sevilla started this Champions League group stage campaign brightly, drawing 2-2 at Liverpool on the opening round and winning 3-0 at home over Maribor on matchday two. They were on a two-game winning streak across all competitions prior to their narrow 1-0 defeat on the road at Athletic Bilbao in La Liga at the weekend. Sevilla sit at the top of the group E table with four points to their name after two rounds, two points clear of Liverpool and Spartak Moscow. The worrying fact is that Sevilla have struggled for fluency on the road over the past month, winning just once in their last four away games across all competitions. In addition, Sevilla failed to score in their most recent two trips in La Liga. Their recent away record in the Champions League has also been poor, as they have only won two of their last twelve games. Domestically, Sevilla find themselves in 5th position in the standings tied on 16 points with the 4th-placed Atletico Madrid, already six points behind the current leaders Barcelona. Luis Muriel and Ganso have been Sevilla’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this early part of the La Liga campaign, scoring two goals each.

Sevilla Team News

Daniel Carrico and Nicolas Pareja are both missing through injury ahead of this trip.
