Spartak Moscow Preview

Spartak Moscow’s three-game unbeaten streak in the Champions League group E ended last time out as they lost 2-1 on the road at Sevilla. However, they managed to put that defeat behind them and bounced back with two consecutive victories in the Russian Premier League, scoring seven goals in the process. Spartak only sit 4th in the standings with 28 points under their belts, already eight points of the current leaders Lokomotiv Moscow. Spartak’s defeat at the hands of Sevilla have been their sole defeat in their last 16 games across all competitions. Their recent home form has seen Spartak Moscow win five and draw three of their last eight games across all competitions, scoring 19 goals in the process. The bad news is that they have endured a mixed run of form on home soil in the Champions League over the past years, registering four wins, four defeats and one draw in the last nine games in the competition. The Russians are almost qualified for a place in the first knockout stages of the Europa League, but they are also still well in with a chance of making it to the latter stages of the Champions League.

Spartak Moscow Team News

George Tigiyev, Artem Timofeev and Aleksandr Samedov are all missing through injury, while Jano Ananidze and Denis Glushakov are both doubts. In addition, Georgi Tamazovich Dzhikiya is out through suspension.

Maribor Preview

Maribor, on the other hand, have only collected one point from their four group fixtures throughout this Champions League campaign, losing three and drawing once in this term. They have one of the leakiest defences in this Champions League qualification process, conceding 14 goals in four games. They also looked terrible going forward in this term, having scored just once in four rounds. Maribor lost 3-0 on the road at Liverpool last time out in the Champions League, but they bounced back with two victories in a row in their domestic campaign, conceding none in the process. Maribor’s away record in the Champions League has been terrible as they have lost six of their last eight away games in the competition. They are in the group stage of the Champions League for a third time, but they have never managed to qualify for the knockout stages. The good news is that Maribor managed a 1-1 home draw against Spartak Moscow in the reverse fixture, with was the only meeting between these two sides. Jasmin Mesanovic and Marcos Tavares have been Maribor’s most prolific players throughout their domestic campaign, as the pair bagged twelve goals and six assists between them.

Maribor Team News

Aleksandar Rajcevic, Denis Sme, Luka Zahovic and Martin Milec are all doubts ahead of this clash.
