Betting Tips and Predictions

The return of Sadio Mane - as well as getting back to winning ways at the weekend - should give Liverpool a real boost here and I’m expecting the Reds to have too much quality in attack for the Russian champions.

Spartak Moscow Preview

A thrilling final fifteen minutes in Moscow on Saturday afternoon saw Spartak seemingly lose a hard-earned three points before reviving in time to snatch a point at home to Anzhi in the Russian Premier League. Luiz Adriano’s penalty gave Spartak the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour, but they were pegged back late in the second half as two goals in four minutes from Miral Samardzic and Adlan Katsav put Anzhi 2-1 up. However, in the second minute of stoppage time, substitute Lorenzo Melgarejo scored a dramatic equaliser to spare Spartak’s blushes. It’s been a really poor start to the season for the defending champions, who currently sit in mid table after eleven games - already seeing the gap between themselves and leaders Zenit extend to double figures. They are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions, although that does include four draws during that time. In the Russian Premier League, they have won just one of their last six outings and kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Maribor following a late equaliser from the Slovenian side.

Spartak Moscow Team News

George Tagiyev, Roman Zobnin and Artem Timofeev (all cruciate ligament) and Denis Glushakov (thigh) are all ruled out here. Quincy Promes (thigh) and Ze Luis (hip) are both doubts.

Liverpool Preview

Entertainment is almost guaranteed every time Liverpool play this season after they were again involved in a 3-2 victory over Leicester City last time out. Philippe Coutinho was instrumental in the victory, as he first crossed for Mohamed Salah who nodded them in front before striking a fantastic free-kick past Kasper Schmeichel. Shinji Okazaki and Jordan Henderson then exchanged efforts either side of half-time respectively, before the closing 20 minutes became all about Jamie Vardy, who did pull a goal back for the Foxes but saw a penalty saved by Simon Mignolet as Liverpool held on for the win. Prior to the victory at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, Liverpool had gone four games without a win in all competitions amidst an off run of form and their defensive frailties came to the fore once more during the contest. Having drawn 2-2 with Sevilla in their opening group game, there is now pressure on Liverpool to win away from home in one of their upcoming fixtures on the road, with each of their next two games in this competition coming away from Anfield. Doing that would see them end an almost eight-year wait for an away win in the Champions League group stages, having last done so against Debrecen in November 2009.

Liverpool Team News

Joe Gomez is suspended following his dismissal in the Sevilla game. Elsewhere, Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Adam Lallana (thigh) are both out.
