By Dean Carr

Betting Tips and Predictions

United have been in excellent form of late, but this should prove to be a tough test of their credentials. That said, I’m expecting a United win this weekend, with there being real value in the price, also.

Southampton Preview

Fears of a new manager bounce at Crystal Palace were quickly found to be non-existent by Southampton last time out, who quickly established themselves on the front foot at Selhurst Park last weekend. It took just six minutes for Steven Davis to open the scoring for the visiting side, as the Saints captain calmly slotted home from inside the area. Palace did apply pressure, but were unable to find a way past a strong Saints defence, with Fraser Forster making some excellent saves, while Wesley Hoedt impressed. New signing Mario Lemina also produced his most promising display in a Saints shirt so far, with manager Mauricio Pellegrino able to take plenty of positives from the game. A solid defensive unit, it seems it is crucial that Southampton are able to score first in each game they play, having gone on to win both of the games they have played this season after netting the opening goal. They will now be desperate to put in - at the very least - an exciting display for their home supporters this weekend, having failed to score in seven of their last eight matches at St. Mary’s, winning just two of their last 11 on home turf.

Southampton Team News

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should be available once again following the birth of his child, with the Saints otherwise having no fresh injury concerns.

Manchester United Preview

The scoreline may have perhaps been flattering in the end, but Manchester United truly made light work of Everton last weekend. Antonio Valencia’s stunning snapshot from the right corner of the area put a dominant United ahead inside the opening five minutes, but they were forced to wait until the 83rd minute for Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s cool finish. Then, the goals began to arrive like buses, as Romelu Lukaku unapologetically netted from close range against his former side, before Anthony Martial converted a penalty in stoppage time. At no point did United look especially threatened by a toothless Everton attack, with Wayne Rooney having the best of Everton’s few opportunities. It was their third 4-0 victory of the new Premier League season already, as well as being their fourth clean sheet in five games. The early signs indicate that both they and Manchester City will be the two sides to catch this term, with both sitting on identical records heading into matchweek six of the season. After stuttering at Stoke in their last away clash, Jose Mourinho will be eager to see his side return to winning ways this time around.

Manchester United Team News

Marcos Rojo (cruciate ligament), Paul Pogba (hamstring) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (knee) are all long-term doubts for United. Anthony Martial will be pushing to start after coming from the bench to score at the weekend.
