Southampton vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Southampton were able to extend their good form with a 1-1 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor. The Clarets were denied a clear penalty for Ashley Barnes before Nathan Redmond put Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men in front in the 55th minute. Ashley Barnes, though, made up for the only disappointment by converting a penalty in the fourth minute of injury time to level the scores. Cardiff City were able to pick up crucial 2-0 victory over Bournemouth in an emotionally charged atmosphere at Cardiff City Stadium. A penalty from Bobby Reid after the fifth minute eased the nerves before he scored again just after the break.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Cardiff have been quite poor when it comes to away matches with the team only managing one victory in 12 games on the road. Southampton have been significantly better over the last few weeks, and they have lost only twice in the league matches at home since the middle of October. Even with Danny Ings out of the game due to an injury, Southampton should have more than enough strength going forward. I would pick a victory for Southampton.

The feature of Cardiff’s away matches has been a lack of goals and the situation is unlikely to be any better against a Southampton team that is quite strong at the back. Even if Southampton have been unable to manage a shutout in the last six matches, I would back a game with under 2.5 goals.

Southampton Preview

The game against Burnley may have yielded a point for Southampton, but it also resulted in a very costly injury for Danny Ings, who may be out for a month due to a hamstring injury. The striker, who is on loan from Liverpool, has been a crucial player for the Saints this season, and he has been able to overshadow the likes of Charlie Austin with ease. Ralph Hasenhuttl has brought about a major improvement for the South Coast team, who have stayed unbeaten in 90 minutes of the last seven matches. Even though Southampton remain very close to the drop zone, the club will be alright if they head on the same path.

Southampton Team News

Pierre Emil Hojbjerg (head), Mario Lemina (stomach), and Danny Ings (hamstring) are unavailable for the Saints.

Cardiff City Preview

Neil Warnock was extremely emotional after the recent match against Bournemouth, but the manner of the victory against the Cherries revealed that home form still remains key for the team going forward. Cardiff remain on the verge of getting out of the bottom three and it is an extremely important situation, as the team cannot afford to get adrift from safety. Cardiff’s hopes of improving the attack may have taken a major blow with Sala’s incident, but it has the potential to bring a togetherness within the squad going forward.

Cardiff City Team News

Matthew Connolly (illness), Sean Morrison (abdominal injury), and Ashley Richards (hamstring) are unavailable for Cardiff.
