Southampton vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Southampton will be a relieved team after getting a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in the recent league match. Danny Ings once again proved his worth by coming up with a goal just after half-time and this break proved decisive towards giving Southampton a confident mood. A late goal from Pierre Hojbjerg confirmed the crucial victory for Southampton. Brighton produced a remarkable comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw with Fulham at home. An impressive start from the visitors resulted in goals from Schurrle and Mitrovic putting the team in a comfortable position by the 62nd minute, but Glen Murray helped come up with a stunning leveller thanks to his brace.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Mark Hughes’ Southampton will be on a confident mood coming into the game. Even though Brighton were able to produce a strong comeback against Fulham, it is highly unlikely that such a feat will be repeated in every game. Brighton’s Achilles heel happens to be away matches and Southampton will be utilising home advantage to the maximum.

Brighton’s inability to score goals in big numbers is one of the primary reasons why Chris Hughton’s men could be in amongst the relegation battle come the end of the campaign. Southampton may have not got much but they have been able to keep a decent defensive run going. I would pick under 2.5 goals considering the lack of goals within both teams.

Southampton Preview

Mark Hughes will be relieved to get his team to a much-needed Premier League victory. Even though the Saints did not have huge expectations ahead of the campaign, the lack of wins was starting to be a problem for the South Coast outfit. Hughes is now starting to feel the importance of Ings, who has the capability to improve any team on his day. The striker went through a period of personal trouble over the last 12 months, but he is now firing on all cylinders. Ings has already emerged as the key player at Southampton after managing three goals in all competitions.

Southampton Team News

Shane Long (foot) and Jan Bednarek (ankle) are unavailable for Southampton coming into the game.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

Brighton are riding exclusively on the performances of Glen Murray. There are two sides to this dependency, but Chris Hughton will be hopeful that the 34-year-old will be able to remain fit and ready for the entirety of the campaign. Even at this age, Murray’s contribution continues to remain key for the South Coast team. Similarly, matches at the John Smith’s Stadium may hold the key towards keeping the club in the top flight. Brighton are expected to be in a relegation battle come the end of the campaign, but points against teams around them in the table will help them in the right way. Murray tops the scoring charts at Brighton with three league goals.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Soufyan Ahannach (leg) is the only player on the sidelines for Brighton.
