Sheffield Wednesday vs Norwich City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday afternoon (12:30) fixture features two sides in the middle-third of the Championship table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Sheffield Wednesday continued their good form to end the season as they battled out a goalless draw at Molineux against champions Wolves.  They did not create anything but did a decent job restricting Wanderers to limited chances.

Norwich put to an end a three-game winless record with a 2-1 home defeat of Leeds United.  The game marked the end of his time in East Anglia for loyal servant Wes Hoolahan who scored one and created another for Josh Murphy.

The reverse fixture came in December and it saw the Canaries come out on top 3-1 thanks to a goal each from James Maddison, Tim Klose and a Nelson Oliveira penalty.  Jordan Rhodes got the only goal for the Owls to make it three in the last two for him versus Norwich.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair with Sheffield Wednesday ending the season well with just two defeats in their last nine while Norwich have lost just four of their last 17.  The draw might be the most likely result though I think better value can be found in other markets.

Fernando Forestieri has looked good since coming back from a length spell out injured netting three from his last three at home and looks worth an anytime goalscorer play.  Another player I think looks worth backing is Mario Vrancic who has been pulling the strings in midfield in recent weeks for the East Anglian outfit and with good shooting from long-range looks worth an interest here.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

A run of 16 points from the last 24 on offer has given the Owls real hope for next season if they don’t suffer the same horrendous luck with injuries.  They sit in 16th and could finish as low as 17th and as high as 14th if results go for them.

At Hillsborough, they have been a mixed bag of late with three victories, two draws and three defeats from their last eight.  They need to improve their home form next season as they won just seven times in front of their own fans this season.

The 54 goals Sheffield Wednesday have scored this campaign is just the 16th highest in the division while the 59 they have conceded is the 11th highest.  Gary Hooper is the only one of their players to have reached double figures with ten goals.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Jack Hunt, Ross Wallace, Steven Fletcher (all knee), Kieran Westwood (groin), Gary Hooper, Kieran Lee (both hip), Sean Clare, Joost van Aken and Morgan Fox (all ankle) and Sam Hutchinson (hernia) are all unlikely to feature here.

Norwich City Preview

Just one defeat from their last five fixtures has given the Canaries some hope to end the season as they enter year two under Daniel Farke.  They sit one point above Ipswich and local bragging rights dictate they cannot coast here.

Away from Carrow Road, they are without a victory in the last seven though five of these have finished all-square.  They have picked up 28 of their 60 points on the road this campaign.

They need to improve their attack next season which has been the joint fifth weakest in the division while the defence has been in the middle tier with 55 goals conceded.  James Maddison has been their star with 14 goals though with several big sides in for the England under 21 international he is expected to depart in the summer.

Norwich City Team News

Marley Watkins (illness), Louis Thompson (Achilles), Matt Jarvis (ankle) and Marco Steiperman (hernia) are all unlikely to feature here.
