Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides looking to bounce after suffering opening day defeats. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sheffield Wednesday netted twice in their opener but still found themselves going down 3-2 to Wigan. Fernando Forestieri netted once as did Atdhe Nuhiu though the same player was later dismissed. Hull took the lead against Aston Villa in their opener but ended up going down to a 3-1 loss on Monday night. Evandro got their goal in a result that was probably a little harsh on the Yorkshire outfit. These two sides met at Hillsborough in December last season in an encountered that ended 2-2 with Gary Hooper getting a brace for Wednesday. It means that four of the last six meetings between the duo have ended all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the match prices on offer here which have Wednesday as favourites but suggest this is down to home advantage rather any real gulf in class between the two sides. Given that both teams to score is such a short price it seems strange that over 2.5 goals is the outsider of the two markets. If you add in last season (under the same managers) three of the last four for Sheff Wed have gone over while it is six of the last seven on the road for Hull. I think we could be in for quite an open second 45 minutes given both team have attacking talents and weakness at the back, throw in the fact the Tigers played on Monday night and over 1.5 second-half goals makes sense.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

The Owls must improve on the sixth worst home record in the division last season that saw them win just eight times. They did though end the season in good home form winning three of their last four and losing just once. Wednesday did not struggle goals for last season at their own ground netting 37 times which has them in the top-half for attacking returns. 12 of these came in their last four which suggests the attack was just clicking. The defence shipped 31 goals which had them in the bottom-third of home defensive returns. In just one of their last five and three of their last 14 have Sheffield Wednesday kept a clean sheet in front of their own fans.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Atdhe Nuhiu is suspended while Kieran Lee, Gary Hooper (both hip) and Almen Abdi (hamstring) are doubts.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers struggled on the road last season winning just four times and losing 11 of their 23 fixtures. They did though end the campaign with a good run of away from going four unbeaten. The Yorkshire outfit did not struggle to score goals on their travels though netting 29 times which is a top-half record. These figures though were inflated by a remarkable end of the season where they netted 15 times in their last four travels. Their road defence was quite weak shipping 38 times which puts them into the bottom-third for defence. In just one of their last five and three of their last 14 away from the KC Stadium have they kept a clean sheet.

Hull City Team News

Jackson Irvine (illness), Kamil Grosicki (personal) and James Weir (meniscus) are doubts while Ondrej Mazuch (knee) is out for a few weeks.
