Sheffield Wednesday vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is a battle between two under pressure managers in Carlos Carvalhal and Leonid Slutsky. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Sheffield Wednesday drew their third straight game as they held Reading to a goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium last time out. The Owls can probably consider themselves a little lucky to claim a point when you look at the expected goals data. Hull will be smarting after being 2-0 up at home to Bristol City and conspiring to lose the game 3-2. A Frazier Campbell goal in the 33rd minute put them ahead and they seem to have wrapped up the points when Jarrod Bowen scored in the 61st minute but they shipped three in the last 22 minutes to come away with nothing. The last time these two met was in the 2015/16 season and Hull won at their own ground 1-0 with the other match ending 0-0. In fact, the last four have in total produced just three goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Sheffield Wednesday should win this one but they have failed to net in two of their last three it is hard to back them with any confidence so I would suggest looking away from the 90 minute markets for your bets. Hull have conceded six times in the last ten minutes in their last six matches so it looks worth a small interest on a late goal which is timed at 74:59. In addition, as both teams have scored over 55% of their goals in the second 45 minutes take this to be the highest scoring half

Goal to be scored after 74:59

Second to be the highest scoring half

Sheffield Wednesday saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Hull City saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Hull City have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played against Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

The Owls are now unbeaten in six but four of these have ended in draws and this means Wednesday continue to be stuck in the middle of the table. Their next two are against sides below them in the league but then the three after that are against teams above them. At Hillsborough, the form is good with two victories and two draws from their last four and just one defeat all season. They have conceded just two goals in their last four in front of their own fans while netting six times. Five of their last eight have gone under 2.5 goals with two of their last three ending in goalless draws. Just 22% of the goals they have scored have come in the 15 minutes before half-time and the 15 minutes before the end of the game.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Daniel Pudil (hamstring), Sam Hutchinson, Fernado Forestieri (both knee) and George Boyd (shoulder) all remain long-term absentees.

Hull City Preview

At the time of writing Leonid Slutsky was still in a job though a run of six without a victory and just 11 points from their last 14 fixtures suggests he is unlikely to be in this role much longer. He has a tough run ahead with each of their next six against sides above them in the table. Away from the KC Stadium, they have been producing some decent results with three draws, one victory and just one defeat from their last five. They have though managed just seven goals on the road this season. The Tigers have conceded six times in the last ten minutes in their last six which suggests a problem with either fitness or concentration or perhaps both. Jarrod Bowen continues to be their star this season with two in his last three and ten for the season.

Hull City Team News

Jon Toral (hamstring), Stephen Kingsley (groin), Will Keane (knee), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Moses Odubajo (knee) and Ryan Mason (fractured skull) are all set to miss out. James Weir (knee) is expected to miss the rest of the season.
