Sheffield Wednesday vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Sheffield Wednesday have not won in their last six games, losing five of those while Bolton have also not won in their last six, losing four of theirs in what is a vital game at the bottom of the table.

After a promising start to the season, both Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton have plummeted down the table at an alarming rate. Wednesday are in 18th, three points ahead of the relegation zone while Bolton are in the bottom three on goal difference in 22nd position.

Other than a draw away from home in the Steel City Derby against United, there has been nothing to cheer about for Sheffield Wednesday recently. Big defeats to Norwich, Birmingham and QPR have left The Owls in deep trouble, and desperate for three points to put a stop to their current run.

For Bolton, things are no better, and goal scoring has been a huge problem for them with just two goals from their last six games. They were expected to be fighting for relegation but their drop down the league has been very poor despite that.

Betting Tips and Predictions

A tough game to solve this, with both teams showing nothing recently that gives hope they can win a game. This is certainly one for the purists, it could be a poor one and with neither looking capable of winning a game right now, the draw is the best bet here.

This is a vital game for both clubs, and one thing that looks likely to happen is that both teams will protect their goal, they do not want to lose this. That could result in a tight, cagey game with few scoring opportunities and a lack of goals. Under 2.5 goals in the game looks to be something else worth backing in this one.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

While promotion was probably going to be a step too far for Wednesday, they were not expected to be fighting it out at the bottom of the table, which is exactly where they are now. They are just three points clear ahead of the bottom three, and will move a lot closer with a loss here, as Bolton will close on them.

The problems could also be coming off the field for Wednesday, as the signs are they may need to sell players shortly to accommodate the financial fair play rules, something that could put them firmly in the relegation battle.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

While Bolton are expected to be around the relegation zone, the way they have played recently has simply not been good enough. They have been kept off the scoresheet in four of their last five games, and never really looked like scoring in those games, something they have to sort quickly as you can’t win games without scoring.

A point away at Millwall on Saturday was a vital one, and they will be looking to land at least one more on Tuesday at Hillsborough.
