Sheffield United vs West Bromwich Albion Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) game is live on Sky Sports  and features two of the top five doing battle. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Sheffield United bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 road success away to Reading on Saturday evening. Billy Sharp and an own-goal in the last seven minutes secured them a deserved three points.

West Brom stretched their unbeaten run to five with a 2-2 home draw with Aston Villa on Friday night. Dwight Gayle and a late Jay Rodriguez effort secured them a point that the expected goals data suggests they deserved.

The last meetings between these sides came in the 2009/10 season so it is hard to read too much into the head-to-head record. For what it is worth it is honours even from their last six meetings with two wins each and two draws.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the match prices on offer which suggest that there is little to choose between the sides other than home advantage. I think it is better to look at the side markets to find the value.

Both teams score around 60% of their goals in the second-half.  Both are blessed with firepower and a will to win rather than draw so back the second 45 minutes to see both teams net and have over 1.5 goals.

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades have won two of their last three and lost just three of their last 13 as they have cemented themselves as a promotion contender. They sit in third place though are five behind Leeds in second and six behind Norwich at the top.

At Bramall Lane, they have lost just one of their last four though two of their last three here have finished all-square. Their next two home games are against teams in the top six and next three against sides in the top 12.

Four of the last six and each of the last two Sheffield United have played have gone over 2.5 goals. Just two of the last six the Yorkshire outfit have been involved with have seen both teams net.

Sheffield United Team News

Leon Clarke (hip), Ben Woodburn (knock) and Jake Wright (broken cheekbone) are all doubts.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

The Baggies have stretched their unbeaten run to five but have managed to win just three of their last nine. They are in fifth place two points above the side in seventh and six behind the team in second.

Away from the Hawthorns, they have won the last two matches but before that had won just one of the previous six. After this they have four on the road against teams outside the current top ten.

Each of the last five and seven of the last eight West Brom have played have seen both teams find the back of the net. Four of the last five have gone over 2.5 goals with three featuring exactly three goals.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Hal Robson-Kanu and Kyle Bartley (both knee) are doubts ahead of this fixture.
