Sheffield United vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is an important one in the promotion race as it features the side in third hosting the team in ninth. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Sheffield United will be looking to bounce back from an FA Cup Third Round shock as they went down 1-0 at home to non-league Barnet. They have won three straight in the league through beating Wigan 3-0 on New Year’s Day with a goal each from David McGoldrick, Mark Duffy and Billy Sharp.

QPR stretched their unbeaten run to six in all competitions and booked their place in the last 32 with a 2-1 defeat of Leeds thanks to Jake Bidwell and an own-goal. In the league, they last played January 1st and drew 2-2 at Villa Park with Luke Freeman and Eberechi Eze getting their goals.

The reverse fixture came on August 11th at Loftus Road and the Blades won 2-1 that day with Eberechi Eze netting for the Rs and Billy Sharp and a David McGoldrick penalty for the Yorkshire side. The expected goals data believes that the result was a fair reflection of how the game unfolded.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Sheffield United are strong favourites to win the game but the price is far too short on a side who have won just seven of 13 at their own place this campaign. QPR drew at Villa Park recently while have beaten Forest and Boro in recent times so I like them alongside the draw in the double chance market.

In three of their last five and four of their last seven on the road the Rs have netted twice so it might also be worth a small interest on them to go over 1.5 team goals

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades have taken ten points from their last four Championship fixtures and move themselves into third. Each of their next three and five of their next six are against teams in the top 12.

At Bramall Lane, the Yorkshire outfit have won their last two netting three goals on both occasions. Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick both have three from their last three in front of their own fans.

Sheffield United have been busy already in the transfer window signing Kieran Dowell on loan and wrapping up a permanent deals for Oliver Norwood and Gary Madine. Ben Heneghan could be allowed to leave while Daniel Lafferty (Peterborough) has.

Sheffield United Team News

Jake Wright (broken cheekbone) is a doubt.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs have taken 11 points from their last five to move into ninth and keep pace with the top six and are four behind Derby in sixth. They now face two of their next three against the top four sandwiched around a home match with Preston.

Away from Loftus Road, the London side have won just one of their last six through have also lost just two of these with three ending all-square. Three of their last five on the road have ended 2-2.

QPR have strong restrictions on what they can do in the transfer window and will have to settle for the loan recall of Ryan Manning who was at Rotherham. They have been linked with former legend Adel Taarabt but Chairman Tony Fernandez called that a no go.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Nahki Wells (leg), Angel Rangel (thigh), Toni Leistner, Tomer Hemed (both groin) and Geoff Cameron (ankle) are doubts while Olamide Shodipo (thigh) is a long-term absentee and Massimo Luongo is on international duty.
