Sheffield United vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sheffield United will have been disappointed to be held to a goalless draw with Birmingham in their last home game. The expected goals data though suggests they should probably consider themselves lucky to have claimed that point. Preston are now without a win in seven league matches as they were beaten easily 3-0 by Leeds. North-End can have few complaints and have now taken just two points from their previous seven. The two league meetings between these sides last season were both won by the Lilywhites though United did 1-0 in the FA Cup. All three of these fixtures ended 1-0 so we might not be in for a high scoring encounter.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Blades are the most likely winners of this match against a side struggling on the road that said I think better value can be found in markets other than the full-time one.

Preston have failed to net in any of their four on the road this season so back Sheffield United to keep a clean sheet and no Preston goal before 70:00.

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades have made a good start to the season with four wins, one draw and three defeats from their opening. They sit in sixth place though the expected goals data has them a little lower in tenth. At Bramall Lane, they have won two, drawn one and lost one of their opening four with three of these seeing both teams net. Billy Sharp has netted in two of his last three in front of his own fans. Sheffield United have seen six of their eight go over 2.5 goals though the two that have not have been their last two. Four of eight in the league have seen both teams net but just one of their last four.

Sheffield United Team News

Paul Coutts (fitness) is closing in on a return while Jake Wright (broken cheekbone) is ruled out.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites have had a tough start to the season with just one win, two draws and five defeats from their opening eight. They sit 23rd in the table though the expected goals data has them as high as 13th. Away from Deepdale, it is four played in the league and four defeats without even netting a goal. In three of these four the Lancashire outfit have found themselves going into the break behind. Four of the eight Preston have played have seen under 2.5 goals and this is three of four when looking at just road matches. Just three of eight this season have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Preston North End Team News

Ryan Ledsen is available after his ban while Ben Pearson is suspended for one more game. Michael Crowe (unknown) is a doubt while Sean Maguire , Calum Woods (both hamstring) and Billy Bodin (cruciate) are long-term absentees.
