Sheffield United vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who have made better than expected starts to be in the top eight of the division. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sheffield United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in their last game before the international break. They took a third minute lead through John Lundstram but they found themselves 2-1 down after 27 minutes and that was how the game ended. Ipswich also suffered a defeat last time out going down 3-1 at home to Bristol City. Their only goal of that game through Martyn Waghorn who grabbed his second in two games and sixth for the season. The last time these two sides met at Bramall Lane came in November 2010 so it is hard to read much into that game but it was won 2-1 by Ipswich. The Suffolk side have won two, drawn one and lost just once in their last four meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Blades are strong favourites to win the game and this is probably fair given how the two sides have fared in recent games but the Yorkshire outfit have also showed flaws lately and I think this looks to tough a game to find value in the match markets. Given that all five Ipswich away games have gone over 2.5 goals and that the Blades have Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke (four in three) capable of getting among the goals then overs looks the way to play this as does Yes in the both teams to score market. Remember, you can also combine the two in a double should you desire.

Sheffield United Preview

The Blades will be happy with their start to life in the Championship as they sat in third place with 21 points from their opening 11 games. United have not drawn a game this season with seven victories and four defeats. At home, they have four victories and one defeat from their five fixtures with Wolves and Derby among the sides they have beaten. Along with Leeds they have the best home defensive record having shipped just two goals at Bramall Lane this season. They have the joint fourth best defensive record in the league while their attack is the joint ninth highest ranked. They are strong starters and if the league was based on 45 minute results they would be second in the league.

Sheffield United Team News

Richard Stearman and James Hanson (both hamstring) are both doubts as are Caolan Lavery (head) and George Baldock (calf). Paul Coutts will miss the game through suspension.

Ipswich Town Preview

Ipswich are another side who have defied expectations (and shot data) to sit in eighth place after their opening ten fixtures (they still have a game in hand). Town though have lost four of their last six and may be on the start of a slide down the table. On the road, they won their first two matches but have lost their last two losing at QPR and Leeds. Each of their five on their travels have gone over 2.5 goals and have produced a total of 21 which is an average of over 4 goals per tie. The 20 goals they have netted makes the joint second highest scorers in the division though the defence is ranked in the bottom eight. They sit second in the over/under 2.5 goals table with an average of 3.6 per fixture.

Ipswich Town Team News

David McGoldrick (hamstring) and Emyr Huws (Achilles) hope to use the international break to return to fitness.
