Sheffield United vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sheffield United did sit top of the league but a Wolves victory and their own 1-0 loss at Loftus Road to QPR means they dropped to third. A fourth minute goal settled the game though it was a contest that saw little to choose between the sides in the expected goals data. Hull suffered their second successive home loss of the week as they went down 3-1 against Middlesbrough in midweek. Kamil Grosicki got them back into the game in the 72nd minute but then they conceded a penalty and it was game over. The last time these two sides met came in April 2014 in the FA Cup and before that in the league it was December 2010. Little then can be read into these records though for what it is worth the Tigers have won three of their last four meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Six victories from seven home games means that the prices on a home victory are hard to ignore against a Hull side who were comprehensively outplayed by Middlesbrough in midweek. United tend to bounce back from defeats with a strong performance and should be backed here. The Tigers do look capable of getting among the goals as they have in all bar one of their games this season. They have netted two against the strong defence of Middlesbrough and Wolves and one each against Villa and Middlesbrough so take the United victory and YES in the both teams to score market.

Sheffield United Preview

Defeat last time out put to an end a run of three straight victories but things are still looking good for the Blades. They sit in third place and this marks the start of a five-game run against teams outside the top half. At Bramall Lane, they have looked strong with six victories and just one defeat from their seven fixtures. Along with Derby they have the best home defensive record in the division having conceded just three times. United are strong starters and have been ahead in eight of their 15 so far and this goes to an even better five of seven at home. Billy Sharp has six for the season and after a little gap in scoring has two in the last three.

Sheffield United Team News

Caolan Lavery (eye) and Richard Stearman (hamstring) are closing in on returns while Kieron Freeman (dislocated elbow) is out until December. Simon Moore will likely deputise for Jamal Blackman as the keeper went off injured in the last game after just ten minutes.

Hull City Preview

It is now just seven points from their last ten fixtures for the Tigers who have lost five of these. Going into this round of matches they sat in 18th place and they look set to be battling against relegation than for promotion this season. Away from the KC Stadium, they have been decent of late taking five points from their last three though before that had taken one point from the opening four. They have netted in all bar one of their road trips this season. Hull are the team to watch for neutrals with an average of 3.53 goals per fixture and seven of their 15 going over not just 2.5 but 3.5 goals. Their last six games have seen a total of 14 goals netted which is an average of over two per tie.

Hull City Team News

The Tigers still have an extensive injury list with Evandro (hamstring), Moses Odubajo (broken kneecap), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Ryan Mason (skull), Stephen Kingsley (groin) and Will Keane (cruciate) long-term absentees. Michael Hector is also missing following a red-card in his last game.
