Sheffield United vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) game is live on SKY TV and features third and fourth in the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Sheffield United continued their recent wobble going down 3-1 at the Den to Millwall last time out. A David Brooks goal gave the Blades some hope and put them on level terms but two goals in the last 25 minutes gave the three points to the Lions.

Bristol City made it back-to-back victories as they defeated Middlesbrough 2-1 at Ashton Gate last time out. Two goals in a three-minute spell (one each from Joe Bryan and Jamie Paterson) just after the interval enabled the Robins to secure three important points.

The last meeting between this pair came in the 2014/15 League One season in which the away side won both games. The Blades tend to do well in head-to-head meetings between the pair losing just one of their last five.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Sheffield United are starting to stutter a little bit with just one point from their last three and they take on a Bristol City side who have won their last two. I could not put anyone off backing the Robins here but I would look elsewhere for my bets.

Both teams have seen four of their last five go over 2.5 goals and both teams score so try combining these in a double to enhance their price. The Blades have conceded seven first-half goals in their last nine fixtures so take the first City goal to come before the allotted time which is 57:00.

Sheffield United Preview

It is now just one point from their last three games for the Blades which has seen them drop down into fourth place. The run could continue as they face sides in the top-half in each of their next three.

At Bramall Lane, they had won four in a row (including a defeat of Wolves) but have lost to Fulham and drawn with Birmingham in their last two. Each of the last four in front of their own fans has seen both teams find the back of the net.

Four of their last five matches have not just gone over 2.5 goals but over 3.5 as well with two even going over 4.5. United have now conceded seven first-half goals in their last nine fixtures.

Sheffield United Team News

Paul Coutts is out for the season after breaking his leg while Ched Evans (ankle) and Kieron Freeman (dislocated kneecap) are doubts.

Bristol City Preview

Five victories, one draw and just one defeat from their last seven has moved the Robins into third level on points with the Blades but with a superior goal-difference. After this match, they have a run of three in a row against bottom 12 sides.

Away from Ashton Gate, they are unbeaten in their last seven and have won three of their last four. The 17 goals they have scored is the joint best away attacking record in the Championship along with league leaders Wolves.

Four of their last five matches have seen both teams find the back of the net and have gone over 2.5 goals. Their last six goals have come in the second-half and they have failed to net in the opening 45 minutes in each of their last four.

Bristol City Team News

Gary O’Neil, Jens Hegeler, Ivan Lucic and Famara Diedhiou (all knee) are doubts as is Eros Pisano (hamstring). Callum O’Dowda (ankle) is expected to miss the next few months.
