Sheffield United vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) features a couple of teams who could be fun to watch this season in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

The outright markets suggest both these teams will be in the middle of the pack and hopeful on for a top-half finish. Sheffield United are lower ranked than Brentford but a few shrewd experts have been tipping them to spring a few surprises. The same goes for Brentford who are really attracting a lot of buzz for the way they ended last season and have done business this one.

This promises to be a tough opening day test for these credentials and marks the first meeting between the pair since April 2014. Both sides have new men in the dugout since those days but for what it is worth the Bees are unbeaten in their last four meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both teams are likely to be under-rated by bookmakers this season but that is no help when they do battle with each other. I would marginally lean towards the draw as the best value of three in the match markets but it is not something I would be playing myself. I like goals in this game but you don’t get a lot of mileage out of over 2.5 goals here. If you get more specialist about when the goals will be scored though the value starts to come so get interested in over 1.5 goals in the second-half and play a little bit on over 2.5 in the final 45 minutes.

Sheffield United Preview

It was the 2010/11 season the last time Sheffield United were in the Championship so it is a welcome return for a club with the size and passionate support of the Blades. Chris Wilder is the man in the dugout and after running away with League One he will now be asked to re-establish United as a Championship team.

Richard Stearman at the back is their big investment this summer alongside a number of lower league talents. They have kept many of their main talents including topscorer Billy Sharp.

Punters looking for pointers on the Yorkshire outfit should note they were a good side for over/under bettors with 28 of their 45 going over at an average of 3.02 goals per game. They were also tough to score against at Bramall Lane with eight clean sheets in their last 14 League One home matches.

Sheffield United Team News

Tenth last season was a good return for Brentford especially after selling top-striker Scott Hogan in January. This season manager Dean Smith will be expected to push the Bees into the top six after being handed some funds for new players.

They spent big on four players, strikers Ollie Watkins and Neal Maupay, right-back Henrik Dalsgaard and holding midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo. They have so far kept their key players and will hope to make it to the end of August with influential front three Canos, Jota and Vibe still at the club. One thing to note about the Bees is that they love a high-scoring game with 17 of their fixtures last season going over 3.5 goals and an average of 3.04 per match. Each of their last 11 on the road saw both teams find the back of the net.

Brentford Preview

They have no registered injuries or suspensions.

Brentford Team News

Harlee Dean (suspended) and Alan Judge (broken tibula and fibula) are both set to miss out.
