Sheffield United vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday (30th) afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Sheffield United got back to winning ways on Boxing Day as they comfortably saw off Sunderland 3-0 at Bramall Lane. The goals were shared around the team with one each for John Lundstram, Richard Stearman and George Baldock. Bolton continued their away day struggles as they suffered a 2-0 loss on the road to Middlesbrough on December 26th. Wanderers played reasonably well but lacked a scoring threat up front. The reverse fixture in September at the Macron Stadium saw United win the game 1-0 thanks to a Cameron Carter-Vickers goal. Just one of the last seven meetings between these sides has seen both teams find the back of the net.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given the respective home and away form of these sides Sheffield United are deserved short favourites to win this game. There is no way I can back them at such short odds on the basis that a corner is turned by beating Sunderland I would need to such more from them so I will instead look at a couple of goalscorer bets. Richard Stearman was a threat from set-pieces in the last game for United and I think at big odds he could be worth a little interest in the goalscorer markets. David Wheater also looked a threat for Wanderers and for similar reasons I would recommend a small interest on him to get a goal.

Sheffield United Preview

A six-game winless run came to an end last time out for the Blades and they will hope that this represents a turning point in their season. They are in sixth place though they are just six behind Bristol City in second and are among 11 sides who could argue they are in the race for a second-place finish behind Wolves. At Bramall Lane, they have won just one of their last four though over the season they have won eight of 12 in front of their own fans. The 23 home goals they have netted is the third best attacking record in the league behind Wolves and Hull. The Yorkshire outfit are a good source of entertainment for neutrals with no goalless draws and an average of 2.83 goals per fixture. Leon Clarke is the top scorer in the league with 14 goals though he has none in the last three and just one in the last five.

Sheffield United Team News

John Fleck has completed his suspension while Ched Evans (ankle) and Kieron Freeman (dislocated kneecap) are doubts. Paul Coutts is out for the season after breaking his leg.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

A run of three defeats from their last four games has seen Wanderers slide back to 23rd although it is tightly packed at the bottom. This marks the start of a tricky fixture run which sees six of their next seven in the league against top-half sides. Away from the Macron, they have struggled failing to register a single victory though they have drawn five of their 12. Four of their last six on the road have seen both teams score while three of five have gone over 2.5 goals. 12 of the 24 Bolton have played this season have seen two or three goals scored and they average 2.75 goals per fixture. Just 9% of the goals they have scored this season have come in the opening 15 minutes of the first half or the second half.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Jem Karacan (personal), Adam Le Fondre (unknown) and Andrew Taylor (calf) are doubts
