Sevilla vs Valencia Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Sevilla capitalised on a poor defensive display from Athletic Bilbao to secure a 2-0 win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Luis Muriel opened the scoring in the 27th minute and Sevilla added a quick second through Franco Vazquez in the 32nd minute. Valencia made it five games without defeat after a 2-0 win over Real Betis at the Mestalla. Rodrigo Moreno latched onto a long ball to score the opener in the 23rd minute. Simone Zaza ended his long goal drought with an effort just two minutes into the second-half to provide a crucial win for Marcelino’s men.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This meeting has been dominated by home teams, and it is best exemplified by Valencia’s disappointing away record against Sevilla. Valencia last managed a win at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan back in 2004. Even though Sevilla have an upcoming match against Manchester United, the squad will have enough in the form of quality to get something out of the game. Since 2004, Valencia have come closest to getting a victory in the form of a few draws. I would back a draw in this game. The absence of Santi Mina robs Valencia of a major advantage in the attacking department. Sevilla have also not been prolific in recent games against Valencia – or in the La Liga for that matter. Sevilla have scored over 1.5 goals only twice in the last five home games against this opponent. All these factors are likely to make this a low scoring game.

Sevilla Preview

Sevilla have been able to recover from a heavy loss to Atletico Madrid in a positive fashion, as the club has kept back-to-back clean sheets since conceding five against Diego Simeone’s team. Yet, the La Liga will not be the focus for Eusebio’s men coming into this game, as Sevilla have a crucial second-leg Champions League last 16 game against Manchester United in a few days. There is a significant possibility of Sevilla resting the top stars with a view of reaching the quarter-finals. Luis Muriel has moved alongside Wissam Ben Yedder and Pablo Sarabia as the top scorers at the club, as he scored his sixth league goal of the season against Athletic Bilbao.

Sevilla Team News

Sevilla have Jesus Navas (calf) and Sebastien Corchia (groin) rated is doubtful for the game, while Lionel Carole (muscle) and Juan Soriano are unavailable for this match.

Valencia Preview

The Valencia outfit have done well to establish a strong winning mentality once again, as four wins in the last five games place Valencia in a very strong position with regard to Champions League qualification. Valencia have a significant eight-point advantage over fifth-placed Sevilla are coming into the game. Since the top four teams in the La Liga 2017-18 table will be directly qualifying to the Champions League group stages, Valencia may not lack the motivation to overtake Real Madrid, who are just one point ahead. Simone Zaza is now back at the top of the scoring charts with 11 league goals – the same as Santi Mina.

Valencia Team News

Santi Mina suffered a thigh injury in the win over Real Betis and he will be unavailable for the next couple of weeks.
