Sevilla vs Liverpool Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Sevilla welcome Liverpool to the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on 21/11/17, with both teams knowing that a win would book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Both picked up three points at the weekend, with Sevilla defeating Celta Vigo 2-1, while Liverpool overcame Southampton with a 3-0 victory. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Sevilla has historically been a tough place to visit in European football and this will be a hugely tough task for Liverpool to get the desired result. However, given the quality of recent performances, I’m expecting the away side to get a result on their travels.

Sevilla Preview

Sevilla were forced to come from behind at home to Celta Vigo at the weekend as they made ground on the Champions League places with a 2-1 victory. The visitors started brightest and were rewarded for their greater urgency when striker Maximiliano Gomez produced an excellent header from Pione Sisto’s free-kick from the edge of the area. Despite the setback, Sevilla responded with a set-piece of their own, with striker Luis Muriel heading in the equaliser, before Nolito got in on the party of headers with his own from Pablo Sarabia’s delivery from the right. As such, Sevilla are now just two points behind both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the race for a Champions League place after the two sides played out a 0-0 draw in the Madrid derby. Manager Eduardo Berizzo has helped maintain his side’s historically excellent home form this season, guiding his team to seven wins in a row in all competitions and extending their unbeaten record to an incredible 25 games, with this fixture coming almost exactly a year to the date of their previous home defeat - a 3-1 loss at the hands of Juventus. The suspect nature of Liverpool’s defence will see Sevilla fancy their chances of getting at the Premier League side, though they will need to be wary of the threat they pose, particularly on the counter-attack.

Sevilla Team News

Nicolas Pareja, Jose Mena Rodriguez (both groin) and Daniel Carrico (thigh) are all ruled out here. Sebastien Corchia (knee) is a major doubt.

Liverpool Preview

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool seem to have turned a corner, as they comfortably defeated Southampton 3-0 at Anfield on Saturday afternoon to make it four straight wins in all competitions. Man of the moment Mohamed Salah was once again thrust into the spotlight at Anfield, giving Liverpool the lead with a superb curling effort from 20 yards out into Fraser Forster’s top corner, before Philippe Coutinho picked out the Egyptian’s clever run to double their lead. Coutinho then got himself on the scoresheet with a neat finish in the second half as the Reds secured their third successive 3-0 win at Anfield in all competitions. Confidence seems to be rising at just the right time for Klopp’s side, who face a testing week with Sevilla on Tuesday night before a visit from Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday. Three points against the Blues would see Liverpool move level on points with Antonio Conte’s side, but they can ill-afford to take their eye off the ball for a game they have to get a result from. Victory would see them book their place in the last 16 and potentially as group winners, but defeat would leave them needing a victory in their final group match at home to Spartak Moscow to secure qualification to the knockout stages.

Liverpool Team News

Defenders Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Joel Matip (thigh) both miss out, but Adam Lallana (thigh) is included in the travelling squad.
