Betting Tips and Predictions

Scoring a winner so late in the first leg last weekend should give Sevilla a real boost, especially given how formidable they are at home. It’s difficult to see anything other than a home win in this one, which I’m backing at 4/9.

Sevilla Preview

Despite the success enjoyed in the first leg of the Champions League last time out, Sevilla endured a frustrating opening game in La Liga at the weekend, being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Espanyol. When defender Clement Lenglet gave the home side the lead, most would’ve anticipated a relatively comfortable victory for Eduardo Berizzo’s men. However, Leo Baptistao responded ten minutes later in what proved to be the final goal of the game but far from the final notable action, as Ever Banega was sent off for abusing the referee after being handed a yellow card. For new boss Berizzo, this is his first taste of Champions League football as a manager, although part of the reason he was able to secure the Sevilla job was down to his run in the Europa League with Celta Vigo as they reached the semi-finals. Sevilla have won four of their last five Champions League home games - with last season’s runners-up Juventus the only team to win there since November 2015.

Sevilla Team News

Goalkeeper David Soria is set to miss out with a broken finger, with Sergio Rico ready to deputise between the sticks. Daniel Carrico is missing with a hamstring injury, but Franco Vazquez is back in training as he looks to recover from a hamstring problem of his own.

Istanbul Basaksehir Preview

A much-changed Istanbul Başakşehir were made to pay for a weakened side at the weekend, as Karabukspor came from behind to come out on top 3-1 in the Turkish Super League on Saturday evening. Stefano Napoleoni gave the away side the lead in the 21st minute, but Gabriel Torje equalised before an Alexandru Epureanu own goal put Karabukspor 2-1 ahead heading into the break. Gheorghe Grozav then sealed the win midway through the second half, as Istanbul lost back-to-back August 2015. This is the first time the club have competed in the Champions League in their history, beating Club Brugge in the previous round 5-3 on aggregate. Their away form, though, shows a mixed bag of results, winning four, losing four and drawing two of their last ten games on the road in the Turkish Super League. Given Sevilla’s home record in European competition, this is going to be a huge challenge for the Turkish outfit to turn the result around.

Istanbul Basaksehir Team News

Aurelien Chedjou (back) is unlikely to feature for the away side, although Egemen Korkmaz is in contention to return.
