Schalke 04 Preview

After a very strong start the season, Schalke were quickly brought back down to earth in the second weekend of the league season. After a victory in the DFB Pokal, they began the Bundesliga season with what looked to be quite an impressive 2-0 win over RB Leipzig at home. However, that start was just about erased away at the end of the August when they lost away to newly promoted Hannover thanks to a goal from Jonathas in the 67th minute of the affair. Schalke only mustered one shot at home, and they will now know that they cannot take these matches against the promoted sides lightly as they face another quickly after that failure.

Schalke 04 Team News

Schalke will be without striker Breel Embolo for at least two more weeks, but they could be set to welcome back fellow striker Guido Burgstaller in this match after he was injured in training at the end of last month. Another striker, Franco Di Santo, is a doubt after being replaced by Burgstaller in the last match.

VfB Stuttgart Preview

After just scrapping by in the DFB Pokal via penalties, it would have been understandable to assume that Stuttgart might have a tough season ahead of them. Instead, they have began the Bundesliga fairly well and look like they could be a threat to challenge for the top half spots. They kicked off their league season with a tough fixture away to Hertha Berlin. They lost that match 2-0, but they rebounded in the next match to get three points. They did so with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mainz thanks to a goal from center back Holger Badstuber just eight minutes after the half time interval. In what was a relatively even match, they held out and got the three points they desperately needed to give them some confidence ahead of this tough season.

VfB Stuttgart Team News

Winger Carlos Mane will miss the rest of the year for Stuttgart, while left back Emiliano Insua is out until October. Forward Daniel Ginczek is out for sure. Center back Holger Badstuber and defensive midfielder Matthias Zimmermann each picked up injuries during the break, and look to be out.
