San Jose Earthquakes vs Chicago Fire Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

San Jose Earthquakes were not able to stop their rotten away form, as the club slipped to a 4-0 loss against DC United. This was the third consecutive 4-0 loss for San Jose, who saw Patrick Mullins destroy their defence with all four goals. The first two goals were from crosses into the penalty area, while the second two goals came from set pieces. Chicago Fire’s three-game unbeaten run concluded with a heavy 3-1 loss against Philadelphia Union. Chris Pontius’ brace inside the first 55 minutes set up a base for the home team, who added a 3rd through Charles Sapong. Even though Luis Solignac came in with Chicago’s first of the game in the 67th minute, it was not enough for the away team. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

San Jose will feel a lot of relief to be back at the Avaya stadium, and I can see plenty of possibilities of a home win in this fixture. In the recent six meetings between these two clubs, the home team has been victorious in five. Chicago Fire do not travel well and the club has just three wins in 15. I would go with a win for San Jose.

Chicago Fire have been able to score in the last six MLS outings. Despite their excellent form at the Avaya stadium, San Jose have kept just two clean sheets in the last six. I see a lot of possibilities in both teams scoring in the game. I would go with over 2.5 goals in this fixture.

San Jose Earthquakes Preview

Manager Chris Leitch will be a relieved man to see his team get back on to home turf for this match. Away form has been disastrous for the club throughout the campaign, but it has hit new lows over the last few weeks. San Jose have lost the recent three away matches with a 4-0 score each. As a result, the club are not far off from Minnesota United and LA Galaxy in terms of taking over the mantle as the worst defensive team in the division. Chris Wondolowski remains the leading scorer at San Jose in the 2017 MLS season with 11 league goals.

San Jose Earthquakes Team News

Mark Sherrod (meniscus), Harold Cummings (ankle), Marc Pelosi (knee), and Marvell Wynne (heart) are the players unavailable for San Jose Earthquakes.

Chicago Fire Preview

The prospect of finishing in the top two places took a major hit during the weekend, as rivals like Atlanta United and New York City were able to extend their advantage over Chicago Fire. The club are only four points behind New York City in the second place, but it would take a lot of dropped points from both teams in order to give Chicago a run into the top two places. Chicago Fire have managed only two wins in the last five, while top scorer Nemanja Nikolic has scored only twice in the last 10 games.

Chicago Fire Team News

Jorge Bava (elbow), Christian Dean (foot), Juninho (knee), Patrick Doody (hamstring), John Goossens (ankle), Daniel Johnson (ligament), and Bastian Schweinsteiger (thigh) are unavailable for Chicago Fire manager Veljko Paunovic.
