Sampdoria Preview

Sampdoria have made the ideal start to their season after a tenth place finish last term. They were distinctly average and mediocre last term, but there are suggestions they can push on and battle for bigger and better spots if they can dethrone the likes of the bigger sides like Roma. They defeated newly promoted Benevento on the opening day 2-1, and they followed it with a big away win at Fiorentina last time out by a score of 1-2. Gianluca Caprari scored after just 32 minutes, and they had doubled their lead just three minutes later when Fabio Quagliarella scored from the spot. Fiorentina did hit back at them after 50 minutes through Milan Badeji, but it was too little too late as Sampdoria held on for all three points.

Sampdoria Team News

Goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano will be out until at least the end of the month for Sampdoria, while left back Dodo will join him on the training table.

Roma Preview

Roma's title charge could be undone at a very early stage if they are to go down to defeat here. They had a big match last time out, and they ended up losing it against their former boss. Questions will go around about their new manager and his tactics as a result. After winning on the opening day against Atalanta with a lone goal from a cheeky free kick, they were undone by Inter Milan last time by a score of 1-3. More worrying was the fact that they lost at home, something they typically did not have occur last season. They also had taken a 15th minute lead through Edin Dzeko, so it will be even more disappointing to have given up their lead. Mauro Icardi struck twice in the second half for their visitors, once in the 67th minute and once in the 77th minute, and then Matias Vecino scored a further ten minutes later to seal the Romans' fate.

Roma Team News

Young full backs Abudullahi Nura (right back) and Emerson (left back) will miss out on the action for Roma until at least mid-October.
