Rotherham United vs West Bromwich Albion Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features the side in third travelling to the team fifth bottom. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Rotherham made it back-to-back draws and stretched their winless run to six with a 1-1 home draw with Reading last time out. A late Joe Mattock goal handed United a point that was the least they deserved for their efforts.

West Brom stretched their unbeaten run to six winning their fourth of these half dozen with a 2-1 victory at Sheffield United. The two sides were close but Albion had superior finishing from Gareth Barry and Kieran Gibbs to secure the points.

These two sides have not met since 2009 in the League Cup and 2003/04 in the Football League so it is hard to read too much into the head-to-head record. For what it is worth they have split their five meetings this century with two wins each and a draw.

Betting Tips and Predictions

West Brom are likely to be a popular bet though a word of caution Rotherham are unbeaten in the last nine at their own place. Sheffield United, Stoke, Derby and Swansea have all come here and failed to win so at the prices I would look to other markets.

Both teams have scored over 70% of their goals after the break so back the second to be the highest scoring half and over 1.5 goals in this period.

Rotherham United Preview

The Millers have drawn a remarkable nine of their last 13 games which means that despite just two defeats in the last 13 they are still struggling. They sit 20th in the league table which is two places and three points above the relegation zone.

At the New York Stadium,  the Yorkshire outfit are unbeaten in their last nine with six of the last seven finishing all-square. Both teams to score has happened in each of their last five and six of their last seven at their place.

Rotherham are slow starters having been ahead just three times going into the break this season. No side has scored a lower amount of first-half goals than the five that they have netted.

Rotherham United Team News

Kyle Vassell (groin) is a doubt while Darren Potter (ankle) is a long-term absentee.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

The Baggies have taken 14 points from the last 18 on offer to keep the pressure on the top two sides. They sit in third place and are five behind Norwich in second and six behind Leeds in first.

Away from the Hawthorns, they have won each of their last three and all by the same 2-1 scoreline. The last four the Black Country outfit have scored on the road have come from defenders or central midfielders.

West Brom are down in 15th in the half-table with 13 of their 22 matches having been level going into the break. Just 14 of their 46 goals in the league this season have come before the interval.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

James Morrison (muscle), Hal Robson-Kanu and Kyle Bartley (both knee) are doubts ahead of this fixture.
