Rotherham United vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By William Hall

This Friday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides at the wrong end of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

It is Birmingham who have come out on top in recent meetings between these sides with three victories from their last five with one win for Rotherham and one of the ties ending all-square. The reverse fixture in October saw Birmingham come out on top 4-2 in an open game. The Blues shared their goals around with one each for Michael Morrison, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Jacques Maghoma and David Cotterill (penalty) while the Millers got one each from Danny Ward and Jon Taylor.

Rotherham suffered a tenth successive defeat going down 3-2 to Wigan at the weekend conceding a goal in the seventh minute of injury time. The Yorkshire side had Danny Ward and Anthony Forde get their goals on that day.

It is now seven without a win for Birmingham who went down 2-1 at the weekend to a Derby side managed by their former boss Gary Rowett. A 68th minute Che Adams goal looked to have given them a useful point but a Tom Ince injury-time goal denied them.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I guess that Birmingham will be popular given the poor form of Rotherham who are the division whipping boys but I could not bring myself to back them. I wanted to back Che Adams last week but the price has gone since his goal so I will look at another of the Birmingham midfield and I like David Davis at almost double the price. Davis registered three shots last time out and will relish the freedom allowed from Rotherham. In a tight game with no real in-form strikers it is often worth a punt on a player at bigger prices to score first and the man I like for this is Richard Wood. The centre-back had a decent effort on target last week and looks worth an each-way play.

Rotherham Preview

Ten straight defeats, no win in 15 and 20 points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table this has been a disaster of a season for Rotherham. They have five games remaining with this and the home game against Ipswich probably representing their best chance of giving their fans one last win to celebrate. At home, it is five straight defeats for the Millers and they have failed to find the net in each of their last four. Three of their last four at home have ended in the same 2-0 scoreline, losing each of these. The Yorkshire side have managed to find the back of the net just three times in their last seven games. Six of their last seven home matches have been level at the interval. Danny Ward is their top scorer this season with ten goals though his goal on Saturday was the first since Boxing Day in the league.

Birmingham Preview

Birmingham are also in miserable form with two straight defeats, no win in seven and just two in 21 in all competitions. This poor form is the reason they are so close to the relegation zone but victory here should be about enough to keep them up. Away from home, The Blues are slightly improved with just one defeat in their last four and this was no disgrace as it came at Brighton. This is the most winnable of their three remaining away games with the other two coming against in-form Aston Villa and fellow strugglers Bristol City. Both teams to score would have paid in eight of their last ten matches and each of the last five when just looking at away ties. Che Adams now plays off the striker and has two in two games. Four of their last five have seen a goal scored in the last 20 minutes.

Rotherham Team News

Lee Frecklington (knee) is closing in on a return as is Tom Adeyemi (calf).

Birmingham Team News

Michael Morrison (groin) could return but Rhoys Wiggns (knee) will miss the rest of the season.
