Roma vs Chelsea Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Roma welcome Chelsea to the Stadio Olimpico on 31/10/17 in a meeting of the two top sides in Champions League Group C. Roma were 1-0 winners at home to Bologna on Saturday, while Chelsea defeated Bournemouth by the same scoreline. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both of these teams looked well matched in their previous outing and I’m expecting a similar affair to the Stamford Bridge clash. Chelsea would likely take a point here, with a victory in their trip to Qarabag likely to be enough to see them through to the last 16.

Roma Preview

Roma may not be casting teams aside with ease at present, but they will certainly settle for the consistent results they have been collecting after winning their third straight Serie A game 1-0. This time Bologna were the opponents, coming to the Stadio Olimpico with a stubborn gameplan, but they were undone by a Stephan El Shaarawy goal in the 33rd minute, which proved to be the game’s only strike. The result leaves Roma 5th in the Serie A table after ten games, four points adrift of current leaders Napoli and just four points behind Juventus with a game in hand. Given the current landscape in Serie A, Roma will have their eyes on challenging for the Scudetto title and it will be interesting to see how they balance both domestic and European commitments the further the season wains. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side find themselves in a strong position after three Champions League group games, currently sitting second in the group on five points, giving them a three-point lead over third-placed Atletico Madrid. Following the visit of Chelsea, Roma travel to Madrid to face Diego Simeone’s side, in what could potentially decide the fate of both teams in the competition.

Roma Team News

Konstantinos Manolas (thigh) is ruled out, as are Rick Karsdorp, Luca Pellegrini and Emerson, all of whom have suffered cruciate ligament injuries.

Chelsea Preview

Chelsea avoided losing even more ground on Premier League leaders Manchester City last time out after edging past Bournemouth with a 1-0 win at the Vitality Stadium. Eden Hazard squeezed the ball past former Blues goalkeeper Asmir Begovic at his near post five minutes after half-time to make it three wins on the bounce for Antonio Conte’s men following what has been something of a slump in form. The reigning Premier League champions remain nine points off the pace despite their victory, with Man City still looking head and shoulders above the rest of the division at this moment in time. A victory in Rome on Tuesday evening would take the Blues up to ten points in Group C, a total which would almost guarantee them a place in the knockout stages of the competition. Conte’s men produced arguably their best performance of the season so far in their only other away European game, beating Atletico Madrid 2-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano and they will be looking to produce a repeat performance.

Chelsea Team News

Victor Moses and N’Golo Kante are both missing for Chelsea with respective hamstring problems.
