Real Sociedad vs Rosenborg Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Rosenborg will be aiming to extend their winning streak in the Europa League when they travel to the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta to take on Real Sociedad in their Group L opener. Real Sociedad managed a comfortable 2-4 away victory at Deportivo La Coruna in La Liga at the weekend thanks to a brace from Asier Illarramendi and two other goals from Juanmi and Diego Llorente. Meanwhile, Rosenborg won 0-2 on the road at Stromsgodset, with Nicklas Bendtner and Samuel Adegbenro getting on the scoresheet in the last 30 minutes of the game. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Real Sociedad are huge favourites to win despite the fact that their recent home form has been terrible as they have only won once in their last seven home games across all competitions. I find better value in backing Rosenborg to cover the Asian Handicap on them or to pick up at least one point from this trip. The Both teams to score market is also a good opportunity to make some profit here at odds 1/1. Real Sociedad have scored ten goals in their three league games so far this season, while Rosenborg have netted at least two goals in three of their last four games across all competitions. Here are our best betting tips ahead of this clash:

Both teams to score - Yes at 1/1

Asian Handicap +1.5, +2 at 3/4

Real Sociedad scored over 2.5 goals in 5 out of their last 10 games played

Real Sociedad are undefeated in all of their last 1 games against Rosenborg

Rosenborg saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Real Sociedad Preview

Real Sociedad finished sixth in LaLiga table last season to qualify for the Europa League group stage this term. Furthermore, Real Sociedad kicked off the new LaLiga campaign in style, winning against the likes of Celta Vigo, Villarreal and Deportivo La Coruna. They looked incredibly strong in front of goal during this run, scoring at least three goals in each of these. Juanmi, Asier Illarramendi, and Willian Jose have been Real Sociedad’s most dangerous players in front of goal so far this season, as they bagged seven between them. They now sit in second spot in the LaLiga table tied on nine points with the current leaders Barcelona. Regarding their Europa League recent history, Real Sociedad had a disappointing campaign last season, having picked up just one point in six group fixtures. The good news is that the San Sebastian side have won their both Europa League home games in their previous campaign back in 2014, scoring three goals and conceding just once in this term. At the moment, Real Sociedad are undefeated in the last six home games in LaLiga, winning four in the process.

Real Sociedad Team News

Mikel Oyarzabal Ugarte and Carlos Martinez are both doubts, but Raul Rodriguez Navas is still out through a back injury. The good news is that Ruben Pardo is back in training following his knee injury.

Rosenborg Preview

Rosenborg have suffered a disappointing elimination from the Champions League third qualifying round at the hands of Celtic, but they did well to beat Ajax in the Europa League play-offs to reach the group stage of the competition. They have struggled a bit domestically recently, but they managed to get back to winning ways in the Eliteserien at the weekend as they beat Stromsgodset 2-0. Their form over the past month has seen them win seven of their last nine games across all competitions. The Norwegians have featured in four UEFA Cup and Europa League group stage campaigns, but have failed to reach the knockout stages in each of these. Away from home, Rosenborg have only lost three of their last 14 games and were on a four-game winless streak prior to their 0-1 win at Ajax a month ago. Their recent away form has seen them win five and draw three of their last eight games across all competitions. Furthermore, the Norwegians have scored two goals in each of their last four competitive away fixtures. Nicklas Bendtner has been Rosenborg’s most prolific player in front of goal so far this season as he has already scored eleven goals across all competitions.

Rosenborg Team News

Matthias Vilhjalmsson and Pal Andre Helland are both missing through injury, while Andreas Helmersen is a doubt.
