Real Madrid Preview

Zinedine Zidane will be hoping his side’s slump has now come to an end after they won once again at the weekend, doing so away to Getafe to close the gap on leaders Barcelona to just five points. Karim Benzema opened the scoring for the home side with a clinical finish in the 39th minute, but they were pegged back early in the second half when Jorge Molina equalised for the hosts. However, after missing an excellent chance earlier on in the game, Cristiano Ronaldo netted the winner five minutes from time to keep momentum going heading into this fixture. A win here would all but guarantee Real Madrid a place in the last 16 of the competitions, with generally ten points being considered enough for a place in the knockout rounds. Madrid’s home record in this competition is sensational, having lost just once in their last 33 games at the Bernabeu in the Champions League since the start of the 2012/13 campaign. Having won back-to-back European Cups in the previous two seasons, the challenge is now for Zidane and his players to become the first team to win the Champions League three years in a row.

Real Madrid Team News

Dani Carvajal is missing once again with heart problems, while Mateo Kovacic (groin) and Gareth Bale (calf) are also out. Keylor Navas (groin) is a doubt.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Wembley may not yet feel like home to Tottenham Hotspur but they will surely have no complaints with the result gained at home to Bournemouth at the weekend. As would be expected, it was the home side who enjoyed the better of the chances, though it was not the expected man Harry Kane who got on the scoresheet, after he was denied by Asmir Begovic on a number of occasions. Christian Eriksen was the man to hand his side victory, netting with a calm finish from the edge of the box just after half-time, thus moving Spurs up to 3rd in the Premier League table. Like Madrid, Tottenham come into this game in a strong position in Group H following two wins from two at the start of the group stages. However, with Dortmund playing back-to-back games against Apoel Nicosia in their next two, there will be a real onus on Spurs getting something from their two games with Real Madrid to stay in the driving seat with regards to what most expect to be the battle for second place. The talismanic Kane admits he needs to score at Champions League level if he is to break into a world-class bracket, with this being a real test of his qualities.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Dele Alli serves the final game of his European suspension here. Moussa Dembele (ankle) is a doubt, but Danny Rose, Victor Wanyama (both knee) and Erik Lamela have all returned to training.
