Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Borussia Dortmund hope to seal their place into the Europa League knockout stages when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid on Wednesday night. Real Madrid picked up a comfortable 0-6 away win at APOEL Nicosia last time out in the Champions League thanks to goals from Luka Modric and Nacho, and brace each from Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund threw away a one-goal lead following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s early strike to succumb to a 1-2 home loss against Tottenham Hotspur. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams will be looking to earn some pride in this final Champions League group fixture, but I’m going with Real Madrid to maximise their home advantage and to grab a victory here. They are undefeated in six home meetings with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League and they have also been a strong side on home soil.

Real Madrid Preview

Real Madrid have been unrecognisable throughout this Champions League group stage campaign despite they already managed to book their place in the knockout stages. They were made huge favourites to top this group H after winning back-to-back Champions League titles over the past two years, but they have performed below expectations. Los Blancos currently lie second in the group H table, three points adrift of the current leaders Tottenham and will finish second regardless the outcome of this class with Dortmund. Real Madrid have also struggled throughout the current La Liga season as they find themselves just 4th in the standings with 28 points after 14 rounds, already eight points behind rivals Barcelona. In addition, Real Madrid only managed a 2-2 home draw against the amateur side Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey a week ago. The good news is that Real Madrid looked solid on home soil this season, having lost just once in their twelve home fixtures. In addition, they are currently on a 17-game unbeaten home streak in the Champions League since a 3-4 loss against Schalke back in 2015. Head-to-head, Real Madrid have only lost once in their last five meetings with Dortmund, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Real Madrid Team News

Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio are both doubts, but Luca Zidane is still out through a shoulder injury. In addition, Daniel Carvajal is missing through suspension.

Borussia Dortmund Preview

On the contrary, Borussia Dortmund have endured a torrid run of form over the past two months, winning just once in their last eleven games across all competitions. They looked terrible throughout this Champions League group stage campaign, as they have failed to win a single game in five rounds and only managed to take two points from their two draws against the minnows APOEL Nicosia. BVB were second in the Bundesliga table a couple of weeks ago, but they now lie just 6th with 22 points after 14 rounds, already ten points adrift off the current leaders Bayern Munich. Away from home, Dortmund have only won once in their last six games across all competitions and are currently on a three-game winless streak. Furthermore, BVB have failed to win any of their last five away games in the Champions League, conceding at least two goals in three of these. In addition, Dortmund are winless in their six visits to the Santiago Bernabeu, conceding 13 goals in the process. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is having another great season, as he already managed to score 13 goals across all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Gonzalo Castro, Jacob Larsen, Lukasz Piszczek, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze are all missing through injury, while Eric Durm, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Maximilian Philipp and Sebastian Rode are all doubts. In addition, Jeremy Toljan is suspended.
