Real Madrid vs Barcelona Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Barcelona will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night to take on their eternal rivals Real Madrid for the second leg of their Spanish Super Cup tie. The first leg clash have been completely dominated by Real Madrid as they took a commanding 3-1 lead into this second leg. Real Madrid took the lead soon after the break following an own-goal from Gerard Pique, but Barcelona levelled the game in the 77th minute as Leo Messi scored from the spot. Cristiano Ronaldo started the game on the bench, but entered the field in the 58th minute and needed only 22 minutes to make it 1-2. He has been sent off two minutes later, but that hasn’t stopped Real Madrid to score another goal through Marco Asensio in the stoppage time. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Barcelona had a better ball possession and more goal attempts than Real Madrid last week and give the fact that the home team have failed to win in the last seven El Clasicos, I’m expecting Barcelona to pick up a victory in this one. Both teams to score is another good bet as the last five meetings between these two sides have seen goals at both ends of the field.

Real Madrid Preview

After winning the UEFA Super Cup a week ago thanks to a 2-1 victory over Manchester United, Real Madrid managed to beat their eternal rivals Barcelona 3-1 at Camp Nou for the first leg of their Spanish Super Cup. The bad news is that Cristiano Ronaldo is now facing a five-game ban after he shoved the referee last weekend. The good news is that coach Zinedine Zidane can count on Luka Modric’s services in this clash as the former Tottenham player was suspended for the first leg after he was sent off in the 2014 Super Cup. Los Blancos can count on their home form ahead of this tie as they have only lost three of their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. The most worrying fact is that Real Madrid have lost three of their last four home meetings with Barcelona across all competitions, conceding at least three goals in each of these. Actually, they away sides in El Clasico have the better recent record as the home team haven’t won in an El Clasico for seven games now. I’m expecting Zidane to keep an eye on Real Madrid’s La Liga opener this weekend as well, as they have a tricky trip to Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.

Real Madrid Team News

Cristiano Ronaldo is missing through suspension while Jesus Vallejo is out through a thigh injury.

Barcelona Preview

Meanwhile, Barcelona were on a 14-game unbeaten streak across all competitions prior to their 1-3 home loss last week. It’s a bit too early to say, but it appears that Neymar’s departure has affected them more than expected and some pundits are predicting Barca to struggle until they find a decent replacement for the Brazilian. La Blaugrana have signed another Brazilian player this week, as Paulinho joined them from Guangzhou Evergrande for €40 million, which makes him Barca’s fourth signing of the summer. Furthermore, Barcelona are very close to signing Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund, which is considered to be Neymar’s replacement. After their defeat at the hands of Real Madrid last week, Barca’s midfielder Sergio Busquets admitted that they need to sign more players in order strengthen the squad after Neymar’s departure. Barcelona’s recent away form has seen them win five and draw once in their last six away games across all competitions. In additions, Barcelona have won three of their last four visits to the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring at least three goals in each of these. Actually, they were undefeated in three meetings with Real Madrid prior to their 1-3 loss last week.

Barcelona Team News

Andre Gomes, Rafinha and Thomas Vermaelen are all missing through injury ahead of this trip.
