Reading vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features the beaten play-off finalists from last season against the current league leaders. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Reading made it back-to-back victories with a 4-2 victory at Derby last time out. The goalscorers on that occasion were Liam Moore, Sone Aluko, Roy Beerens and Mo Barrow though the expected goals data suggest the scoreline was harsh on the Rams. Wolves won their second straight in their last fixture before the international break defeating Fulham 2-0 at Molineux. Leo Bonaini netted his seventh in six games that helped him secure the player of the month award while Romain Saiss also chipped in with a goal for the Black Country outfit. The two meetings between the pair last season were won by the home side with the game at the Madejski ending 2-1 and the tie at Molienux finished 2-0. In fact, the Royals are unbeaten in their last six at home to Wolves.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wolves are the best team I have seen in the Championship this season but they have not reached a point where they are swatting everyone aside and while this might come I would not want to be backing them at such a short price. Reading could be the value but I prefer to side with them in a few other ways, firstly seven goals in their last two suggest they are capable of scoring as are the visitors so take YES in the both teams to score market. I also like the look of Royals player John Swift to score in this game, he grabbed a brace on his penultimate start and although did not last time out was the key creative force behind the victory. As the visitors have a ton of goalscoring options themselves a simple anytime scorer play than first goalscorer might be the best option.

YES in the both teams to score market

John Swift to score at any time.

Reading Preview

The Royals picked up two victories before the international break and the return of influential duo Jon Swift and Yann Kermorgant will give Jaap Stam hope that his side can rise from their current 18th place. Nine of the 18 points they have got this season have come in the last five fixtures. At the Madejski Stadium, they have struggled a little with just two victories, two draws and three defeats with the win over Forest in their last home game putting to an end a run of five (in all competitions) in front of their own fans without success. The 18 goals they have scored is the joint sixth lowest in the division though they have netted seven of these in their last two. They do though have the joint eighth best ranked defence though they have kept just two clean sheets this season.

Reading Team News

The Royals hope that the break will allow them to ease their injured list with Callum Harriott closest to a return and Jordan Obita (cruciate) furthest away. Six players who are doubts are George Evans (thigh), Joey van den Berg (head), Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (calf), Tennai Watson (hamstring) and Tiago Ilori (concussion).

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

After 16 games Wolves sit two points clear and bookmakers seem convinced that they will only go on and extend the gap as the season continues. This marks the start of an eight-game run that seems them only play one top eight side and that is Ipswich. Away from Molineux, no side has won more games than the five they have won, while the two they have lost is only bettered by Bristol City who have been beaten just once. Each of their last five on their travels has seen at least two goals. The 29 goals they have scored this season is the most division and the same is true for the ten that has been netted by Leo Bonatini. Their defence is strong having shipped just 14 times meaning they have four goal better goal difference than anyone else.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Barry Douglas will miss out through suspension while long-term absentees Carl Ikeme (cancer) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (hip) are ruled out.
